Google seems to be at the forefront of inventive and new products, with items like the nest themo, Chromecast pen, tablets, laptops, and who knows what in the pipeline, clearly spending millions to buy out these companies, and develop these products, yet despite having one of the biggest website in the world, with millions of hits everyday, why don't you see a mention of these on their home page?
I guess the biggest obstacle would be competition laws, but even with there other services like gmail and youtube you barely see a mention of these in advertising sense. It seems to even find the products you have to go though the play store, or do a search for them.
Google products aren't necessarily the biggest sellers in the market, such as ipad vs nexus, and if they are going to continue to develop new products and invest millions surely they need to rethink a better market strategy.

I own a chromecast, i had it imported into the UK from the USA since it went on sale there first.

I read technology bloggs etc, so i get to hear about their products that way, and usually first before your average consumer too.

Thing is, with google, unless the product takes, and takes in a big way, they don't promote it. Chromecast is still in 'beta' even though it's now hit UK stores. I'm sure they will have a little more advertising regarding the chromecast as soon as they are happy with the platform and it's been robustly tested. So far, it could do with a few more compatible apps etc.

They are a mutli-billion pound company, so i don't agree at all that they can't sell their own products. They just do a lot of slow and soft launches after making robust and well made products.

Its a mixture of the two things.

As Ryedale said, Google has always had a very clean and minimalist web page. It has played a major part in their growth. When they started all other search engines were very cluttered and full of distractions.

And as DazRave mentioned they have loads of beta products and while they are betas they do not need to promote it. The news breaking on the technology blogs is normally enough to sell all the beta versions.

I'd say the title is a little misleading.

They do link to Youtube, Gmail etc on the search engine, it is in the top right corner. As mentioned above, they want to keep things clean as that is what the visitors want and they have found a way to do that. Before they had a black bar going across the top of the page then changed that into what we have today.

As for the other products such as their phones, well, not sure it would look good, they already get a lot of publicity from everything they do and if they really wanted, they can leverage off of their advertising properties.

They also offer (or at least did) little messages under the search box, I remember finding Google Earth that way.

Google are now in a position where they almost don't really need to push their products, as suggested above, anything they do is reported on by tech blogs and websites - they'll hit a large section of their target market there. Either way, their approaches seem to be working for them!

Its all spam now, Google read all your emails and spams you ads they are paracites, they want to control you and control how you think. Google is all about itself and revenue streams, possibley the greatest threat to the world in the modern era. but we lap it up like good little consumers and beg them for more.

Destroy Google, somehow.

Destroying the WWW is what the Chinese are working tirelessly to do, I know this for a fact as I know several Chinese super nerds who are paid by the state and whose only purpose is to destroy www.
They made a very good case actually, you can never take out the cables and satellites, but parts of the WWW are very basic, the Chinese will do it, and I will piss myself with laughter.
I really hope they succeed, lets see how much facebook and google is worth when www is no longer in existence.

If it means an end to this sort of nonsense I'm all for it.

Does the chrome cast need to be steamed from your phone or tablet?

No, it has it's own internet (well, wifi) connection and your phone acts the same way a remote control does for a TV. Therefore after choosing something to watch from BBC iPlayer on your phone, for example, the Chromecast then starts to stream it and frees up your phone completely (you can even switch it off, it won't effect what you are watching).

Hope this helps. It's a great bit of kit for £30!
