Google Caffeine - Longevity of domain -vs- keyword rich domain

I am about to relaunch one of my sites (pre Christmas) on a new platform and have been expecting a temporary dip in our page one google rankings whilst the site is reindexed (hence being launched pre-Christmas after the rush so that the site has a good six weeks or so to kick in before the next key season).

Anyway, having been keeping my eyes on all the info coming out about Google Caffeine I was wondering whether to relaunch under the same domain name or whether to relaunch under a keyword rich domain.

As I'm moving the domain names will all change slightly anyway due to the difference in extensions.

I will therefore be setting up 301 redirects to deal with this change anyway so is it better to go for a complete domain name change to the keyword rich name rather than brand name?

Your assistance and guidance would be very much appreciated.

It totally depends but this is what I would advise, keyword rich domains are normally quite niche ie terms like consumerelectronics.com are normally taken so this can be quite restricing when it comes to expanding your product line or services ie your domain is outdoorfirepits.co.uk and the you also sell a whole range of garden furniture.

I would stick with your original domain and also purchase the keyword domain and the setup a micro/mini site targeted to that keyword,

this will do two things if done right 1 will provide more value to people looking for that particular product/service as you can have a site dedicated to it, two will allow you to take up more spots on page 1.

So your site could be gardenfurniture.com and you could also setup some micro sites around rattanpatiofurniture.com outdoorfirepits.com etc

dominate the search engines,

but its alot of work and also depends on budget(seo skill) etc.
