Google analytics question

Hi there

I was just wondering if there is a way to get google analytics to ignore any visits that I make to my own site? It obviously includes the visits I make at the moment and this affects my bounce rate if I just want to quickly log on and check something.

Sorry if this seems like a daft question!

Hi GM

Yes you can set filters as follows

from the main page click the EDIT button next to any site you have set up and then scroll down to where it says "Filters Applied to Profile" and click "+ Add Filter"

You then gave a range of options for what you want to filter based on location, IP, Domain and so forth. Data is only filtered going foward though, there does not appear to be a function to retroactively filter the data.

The exact pages viewed by visitors from a specific source does not seem to be visible, I thought it was but I just checked and it does not appear to be there at all

Cheers

If you use Firefox as your web browser, there is a good addon called NoScript.
It is meant to make your life more secure by switching off Javascript but as a side effect it is really useful for letting you disable Analytics on a site by site and even on a visit by visit basis.

When you visit a website, you can click on the NoScript button and it will show all the sites on that page that are trying to use scripting

For example on this page I see a menu like this

Allow sift.co.uk
Temporarily allow sift.co.uk
Allow google-analytics.com
Temporarily allow google-analytics.com
Forbid ukbusinessforums.com

and if I click on any of the above it will reload the page after taking the action shown.

So it lets me decide if I end up as a statistic on someones analytics log or not and makes my surfing life safer for those sites that try to use scripting for malicious reasons.

The drawback is that surfing is more labour intensive.
