Google Adwords

Hi
I am looking for some advice on my Google adwords campaigns
Basically I just want to know how to set up a campaign correctly
Also I am not sure if to choose Automatic or Manual bidding?
and do some keywords need to be in the ad?
Any advice would really be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Andy,

There are many variables associated with a successful adwords campaign - here is what works for me.

1 - High Position, although it will cost more if I reduce my bids to positions 4 and below I get a significantly reduced click through

2 - I only use exact matches - i found broad results were causing many irrelevant ad triggers which obviously cost

3 - A good advert that will grab attention to the searcher - maybe an offer

4 - A good landing page that promotes the offer

5 - I only have my searches appear on google search result and not on the network results - i found people were just clicking around

6 - Keywords in your add will help with your quality score - higher position - reduced click rate

7 - Lots of keywords do not generate lots of quality click throughs - I reduced my keywords down to about 30 quality ones from about 700 - it reduced my spend and increased my sales

8 - Most importantly keep monitoring your keywords and returns - don't keep throwing money at it in the hope that it will work - I was lucky with my particular industry as I started adwords some 6 years ago and have built up a huge returning customer base and reputation which gave me the cash flow to keep investing back into adwords. I have an average mix of 40% new customers and 60% returning customers on a daily basis.

I hope it is of some help to you

Hi Andy,

The thing with googles paid adverts is that you need to get it right. Get it wrong and you could end up spending a lot of £.

There are lots of metrics to factor in and use in order to make your campaign as focused and profitable as possible, and it worth getting a good company to spend time getting it all set up properly (as opposed to doing it hurriedly).

And one last point I forgot to mention - try to work out what time of day / what days people are buying from you site and target your campaign spend to that time of day - my ads run 9-5 I did have them running 24hrs a days 7 days a week no one was ordering in the evenings or weekends so I stopped advertising during those time, again saving on wasted click throughs

Hey,

Adwords can be quite expensive if your budget concious, in the respect that we're in quite a competitive market I received a £100 voucher from Google which I used over 5 days spending £20 a day and got on average 28 clicks. I did spend 3/4 days prior to this researching keywords through their tools and it did lead to one or two sales but not enough to justify the spend.

The only advice is do plenty of research to find the most appropriate and less competitive keywords/phrases. The keyword tool is a brilliant bit of kit for research without the use of the Adwords spending facility itself.

Good luck with your campaign,
James

One small tip (that was already mentioned) is to not show your ads on the ad network and only on Google search results.

I think courting the ad network is an entirely different ball game and should be approached in a different. In my experience, it involves slightly more hands on management and a strong understanding of not only the search profile of your niche, but also the online profile of your niche as a whole.

That's why, I always recommend disabling this function until you are comfortable with AdWords on Google search pages.

The greatest mistake of all is people who measure their success of AdWords by the number of impressions and clicks.
Clicks dont pay the bills, orders do.
ReachLocal specialises in helping SMB's generate a measured Return on Investment, ensuring that they can monitor how well every penny works for them.
If you would like more information on how ReachLocal can do this, drop me a private message with your email address and i will send you the info by return.
