Google Adwords - lose introductory offer?

I need to sign up for Google AdWords because I need to use their keyword planner to look into advertising costs. I notice they have a deal where you get £400 free advertising credits if you spend £400. If I sign up now and use the keyword planner, will I lose the AdWords credit? £400 is quite a lot of money to get for free.
