We have had two bad experiences with so called adwords experts managing our adwords account, both lead to us spending more money for fewer conversions. We have taken it back in house but it is so time consuming especially when google keep changing things on the platform. I am thinking of getting help again, does anyone have any good experiences of adwords managers?

Ninja Commerce

Hi Chris,
This is going to sound like a bit of a sales pitch, so please forgive me. But...

I run Ninja Commerce, we are a Digital Marketing Agency that specialises in eCommerce firms and helping them drive not just traffic, but the right kind of traffic.
We have in-house PPC experts and are a Google Partner.

I'd suggest getting in touch with our PPC Manager either by phone on 01889 529 622 or email him at [email protected] to have a chat about your needs and how we can be of service.

Thanks,
Alex

I think you will be far better doing it yourself, after a while it needs only a small amount of time to amend or update

As you have it running by the sounds of it, you should have a good idea of what's working and what's not

After running e-commerce for 15 years we tried many AdWords specialists that cost a lot of money, most made the CPC run up to silly levels, some never asked what our profit value was on specific items we were advertising: and when we looked on AdWords to see how many changes were made and how often, there work time was a few hours per month

I feel your pain. We paid for a so-called 'Adwords Expert' who apparently was top of her field, terrible experience and basically a complete waste of money. Paid a premium price too. Similar experience to Chris Ashdown in on of the replies above. I wouldn't waste my money and would still try to keep it in house if possible. On another note, we find Facebook adverts for more cost-effective and better at driving conversions. Adwords £0.50-1 Facebook £0.10

The best thing you can do with AdWords if you use someone else to do the work is to check on AdWords history to see what they have changed every week / day / month. It does not mean that they are not doing work offline, but I would expect quite a lot of action especially in the first 6 months as they try things and then maybe add negatives or fine tune keywords

It is time consuming at first but at least you then understand whats happening and why, plus many SEO and AdWords experts seem to have a very large ego regarding there hourly rate

Some great books on the subject and as stated Google help is great as long as you remember they also try and get you to try things that might be very expensive if not closely monitored

I think this depends entirely on the size of your account.

When people say 'PPC Expert' I see one man/woman, managing several accounts and not having enough time to go in to detail...properly!

For one of my businesses, it's completely impractical for me to manage myself...I've tried it...I spend so long messing about that I don't get any of my work done. I need to focus on what I'm good at and leave other clever people to do what they're good at.

Are you perhaps thinking PPC agency? If you're spending around £2k a month upwards and have a relatively complex account, I've found them really useful and informative. I have also tried PPC freelancers but despite having a good start, they fade away and get distracted by new clients.

I don't understand why you want to pay agencies for running you adwords campaing. It's not so hard and if you need help you can always talk with people form google, I mean call them and explain the issue you have. They always help me but adwords is mainly as a "side" tool because from my statystics it shows the biggest rejection rate.

Because google won't setup conversion tracking on your behalf, or design a custom landing page or advise you on how to tailor campaigns at different demographics etc. There are many adwords agencies that do nothing past what google do themselves direct, but if you find a proper adwords provider they will run rings around adwords service.

Just remember to look for track record, and have a clear understanding of what they do for the money rather than just going with the partner badges which only prove they know how to turnover lots of money!

I would recommend doing it yourself and speaking with google when you can.We had one expert from Google who did his best but his recommendations bombed out on our clicks/conversions but he gave it his best shot and tried hard.So I changed things immediately after 10 days of nothing.I called in on the phone and spoke to an inexperienced new google guy.I was very sceptical about the new guy initially and drilled him down to how long he had worked for Google etc eg 6 months? I wanted to get off the phone so fast as I believed I needed top advice only available from someone with loads of experience. But when he said, Look I live on my own and I'm not bothered about getting home on time as I want to sort out whats gone wrong for you.? I Thought what a great attitude and I decided I could work with that sort of guy, so I took the chance. The following day we had a 15.6 click-through rate and 60% of the clicks were enquiries, from zero enquiries in the past 10 days.I would always recommend doing it yourself no matter how much time as it's your $ and Google will advise when needed.Just don't be scared of drilling down on the person who is advising you, or if you cant due to time then, find a member of your staff that you can trust and understands fully your market and specific products and give them a challenge. That's my two pence worth

    Hi Chris

Google Ads can get really expensive without any return if not done properly. What you need is an expert to set-up everything for you and then you can do the regular monitoring if you have the time.
