Hi,

I have found these forums very informative and helpful so far. I aim to learn from the pro's and help those that need it.

I am 19 years old, a part-time athlete and currently unemployed. I have been looking for decent part-time work for a couple of months and now I am looking to forge contacts on UKBF and broaden my knowledge in marketing.

My goals in life are to row internationally for Great Britain and be self-employed. I would like to be able to retire before I am 65, however I can see myself enjoying work and working until then. I am a driven, target-setting, goal-breaking, well motivated guy. And I am looking forward to getting to know everyone ;]

Good Morning and welcome to UKBF

I'm pretty new here too myself but have found the help and advice from people on here invaluable.

I quoted an important part of your thread, never forget that us older pro's as you call us can also learn a lot from younger, driven, enthusiastic people such as yourself.

What kind of marketing work are you looking for?

Kind regards

Robert Blake

Thank you for the replies.

David Shaw: I am interested in getting to know the business at the moment. I would like a job in marketing, but as I am new to it, I don't expect it will be easy finding anything currently :[

I see that you are interested in design. How is business for you? Are you a student?

Robert Blake: Nice to meet you, sir. I would like to be a marketing consultant one day. I would assume that to successfully move into this area, I would either have to join a company, or wait for several years building knowledge in the field. I have only been here for 24 hours, and I have already learnt far more than I imagined possible. I have been reading threads & replies, and taking notes all day. I have acquired at least 20pages of notes all across marketing by now. It is good fun.

Another reason for joining UKBF was for networking. I am constantly on the lookout for friends and contacts in the business world. I will be getting to know people and strengthening the relationships I make along the way.

I look forward to getting to know both of you! :]

I think marketing as a job is one of those areas where experience really does matter. Is a college or university course an option? This would probably be the best route into a career in marketing. In scotland, there is "Careers Scotland" who will be able to give you advice on this. I don't know of the name of equivelants in England.

Design business is fair at the moment - I am in the process of creating a range of lower - cost standard design products rather than bespoke. Although I will continue to offer bespoke services.

Yes I am a student as well. Living the busy life! :)

Welcome to the forums! :)

I am also 19, and there are a few other regular members who are of similar age!

I notice you mentioned marketing specifically. Are you looking to get into business? or are you just looking for a job?

Had no idea you were 19 David, I'm the same age too.

Hillyer the best advice I can give you in relation to this forum is to soak up all the knowledge you can. I learnt a lot of the fundamental marketing knowledge I have by simply reading posts from people like Steve, Andy and other marketing folk. I then studied further into real-world marketing (none of this crap you see in college/uni qualifications) and got some experience on board.
