Compiling a recommended list was what I was getting at, such as your last post. Word of mouth goes a long way for putting peoples mind at rest.
I don't have to many general contacts that come to mind as much of my dealings are further afield but if I had a choice I would always take the local option. It is much better to feel you could pop in to see someone on the progress of a job when required rather than wait for communication via email/phone.

We're a startup (IT Wise really) but are doing a lot of services for a new estate agent starting up based in Newport. I'm sure that they'd be interested in networking. CKG - I think there is a big divide between South and North Wales (generally known as Mid Wales). Probably mainly due to the road network and being a fair drive apart.
I am sure a few more from the North will be along soon. Feel free to join in with the Southerners as they don't bite much due to the recent laws on cannibalism.

they are doing unlimited telephone support for just £15 per month and have bespoke solutions for all, they have a referral scheme that if you send them a new client you get a bottle of chapers free.
and they even speak welsh.

I say don't use a cheap online business card company. Go for one that's local where you can go in and discuss graphics, fonts, print types, see the card material and other designs up close.
Local sources are often more expensive yet if you need to make a great impression (as a consultant that's a big thing for me) then you need to know exactly what you're getting.
Same goes for other locally sourced items. The company I work for in my full time job has a habit of sourcing from suppliers miles away - US, Australia, Europe, etc. for items that could be made in the UK. Sounds great on the bottom line but when things don't work out and we have to go and visit the cost savings start to vanish.
Take a look around your local contacts and suppliers first before going for online sources - you'll be surprised how many there are in yellow pages, etc.

I've a huge list from years of Networking. I must get round to getting it into a good format so I can pass it on one day!

If the business you could be about to do business with has a track record of CCJ's. I can even show you any director's profile which will tell you what other companies he or she has been involved with previously and now! You can then see a full profile on that business too.

I agree. Its all very well saying people from the North please join in, but we usually get ignored - understandably so, because the North Wales coast is further away from the likes of Cardiff (in terms of distance and certainly travel times) than Liverpool, Manchester and many other English cities. Similarly, say Bristol is much nearer Cardiff, Swansea and Newport than say Wrexham or Bangor. This is not only true for here, but many other things, such as shopping directories.
Perhaps the Mods could look at splitting Wales into North and South, or joining North Wales with the North West.

Well I would recommend Orantec.co.uk for web design and SEO in Cardiff. but also im quite interested in the social networking scene vailable in cardiff and wales.There seems to be a mixed reaction to what is available to businesses in terms of connecting to each other, some people seem to have great success stories whilst others cant seem to make connections for what they need!

Hi Guys I am from swansea, i don't see the problem in contacted companies in north wales. I do mostly market south wales ( most of my business is not in wales at all!) such as Cardiff, Newport, Swansea of course. When you think about these areas, these areas are where the money is? is there alot of money in north wales?

Us - evolution legal we are a locally based accident management company that actually won a UK wide award at the Cafe Royal, London that was shamefully ignored by the local press!! (bitter? hell yes)
If you / family / friends /work collegaues / staff have an accicent that was not your fault we sort it all out for free.

I'd like to pass on some hard-won - and expensive! - advice first...DO NOT use BT web design + build! It's vastly overpriced, hard to use (never mind understand!), and I'm informed by the "tekkies" (good folks!) on the tech forum delivers a very poor quality site!
I agree with previous posts to stick to the local option, get someone local that you can see face to face, especially if you're getting help in an area you know nothing about! (Me and "tech" - never gonna be pals!), also advise (now I know better, to make sure that ongoing support is part of the package!) Leave it to the experts I say!
re the North/South sub-thread - most interesting! As a Brit (part Scot/Irish + English I can't call myself any else can I?!?) living in Wrexham (ps - my wife's Welsh so does that excuse me?!?), it does appear that the majority of posts comes from the south. Is that maybe because more face-to-face networking occurs up here, word of mouth recommendations etc? Be interested to know if anyone thinks this!
Lastly, back to the original question! I'm not a great one for "bigging myself up" (Sales - you'll have guessed - is also not a favourite!), and I would prefer any recommendations to come from others, not me.
Not to waste the chance though () - if there are any smaller-sized, local(ish), businesses finding it difficult to get paid on time, or are worried about losing customers if they do chase for payment, I'd be happy to talk to them about an affordable option or two...and earn THEIR recommendation!
(REALLY got to work on that pitch!)
