Glow in the dark stars on ceilings business

Ok this is really boring now, debating the several themes is fine but if people are just going to repeatedly throw insults with smilies attached it's rather ridiculous...

I'm just stating a fact as I see it Tobes. One of the things I've repeatedly 'accused' Crewgirl of is 'bending the truth; and I stand by that charge. I've also pointed out that when cornered her only response is to try and deflect attention from the issues.

Others have cited her rudeness.... Who's she making look foolish? Or other wise put taking the P**s out of?

Guys, this is unproductive and petty.

BTW - a search for Briteways brings this thread up as No 5 on a Google search so, depending on whether or the owners want good or bad publicity, we can carry on or stop! :D

Sorry Alice, and everyone else.

However I WAS actually making a serious point in posts 158 161 and indeed 165. Whether that point was proven or not is up to the reader

Wow! I just read this thread for the first time. It reminded me of a parliamentary debate I once witnessed from the Strangers' Gallery. As I remember, an opposition MP referred to the Minister for the Arts as a "pig's bladder on a stick". He wanted to apply a tax of 177% on the cost of opera tickets to subsidise the cost of improving Halifax Town FC. :)

"A pig's bladder on a stick", as in the ludicrous device used by court Jesters to slap all and sundry 'round the face, is actually a fairly apt description of the office of 'Minister for Arts'.

Alice, your comments are much appreciated; thank you.

I'm sorry Asonda. I'm afraid I missed the comment you refer to . And if given and received in ill-spirit then I would agree that such a comment lends a certain 'perspective' on the person who made it. But I must reserve judgement on things I have seen no evidence about.

However my apology was meant to be a little more general, and more aimed at rebalancing the effects of my contributing to the conversation being reduced to that one typically finds on the floor of the house.

<sigh> Unfortunately it seems the only perspective here is to be character assassination. Posting histories are available and ill-spirit on my part will be hard to find.

And Matt, I didn't mention your name because I don't 'tell people off' I was merely concerned at the direction of the thread.

Yeh, i'm on there... and it looks like I'm right.

A quick calculation:

The skilled assassin has little use for random 'pot shots'. :)

Your concerns were quite legitimate.

Stuart... I too sense the unmistakable whiff of keikch...

But some can and DO get away with it! It's mainly in the schemes where you've got Nth generations that know no better! The old 'Style' card went the same way... That was originally an extension of Goldbergs' store account system. It got swallowed up by the 'legit' loan sharks and AFAIK it's up in those sort of figures too....

I disagree that 177% is the widely accepted APR, in fact, it's utter bo||ocks, however, I'm going to stay on the fence on this one.

If the NEDs would rather have Credit to get their 300inch LCD TV to watch the latest DOOVDES (see Fonejacker, Channel4), then that's their prerogative.

The fact they're able to get credit at all is what matters to them, not the rate of the repayments - because chances are they're not going to repay it at all. They'll all be evicted by next week anyway.

This thread has really expanded since I said my bit, but for a UK search on the 'company' we're now number one, so I'm guessing it will be seen. Anyway http://www.businessopportunitiesandideas.co.uk/94/cash-loans.

I think my concern was raised when I saw this http://briteways.com/loan as having seen the collapse of the Xmas hamper business that caused such misery last year I had hoped that perhaps it would persuade people to just save small amounts each month in a bank instead, and I'm not sure why you would go through anyone else but Argos to apply for an Argos card? Argos charge 29% APR anyway so I think thats quite high enough in itself.

Oh, you or I wouldn't accept it; But if you scratch around the schemes you'll find it's right enough. Have a Trawl 'round 'The Hailes' or Addiewell or Sprinburn or Possil....

...You'll not find a big advert in "The Scotsman" advertising it though!

The 'steady' end of the trade isn't really with the neds; it's with the ordinary folk who are just locked into the cycle and don't have the right information to get out of it..

The Hamper business is a good example of traditional 'scheemie' economics.
When I was growing up it was quite common for adults to have NEVER held a bank account. Everybody got paid in cash, people lived from hand-to-mouth. The hamper companies made sense then... A wee man came to your door on a Friday night. Took your Christmas club money.. Come Christmas him and his mate turned into Santa Clause!

My Gran saved up shillings (5p pieces) and that bought the Christmas dinner usually out of Marks and Spencer... I used to feel almost jealous that we didn't get a hamper. :|

30 years on and Farepak implodes... I was AMAZED to learn it still existed; but then the folk who were paying into it were those who had never gotten out of the cycle their parents and grandparents had lived their lives in.....

Farepack imploded because the very last of their 'victims' were realising that there were better ways to save. Better ways to buy.

Earlier in the thread I mentioned how I'd got my Gran out of the 'Provvie' cycle. I simply got her to take out a bank loan! She didn't even know the banks lent money to 'the likes of her'! A woman who had worked all her life and never so much as claimed a day's sick pay or been a day late with her rent... and she just didn't know! OK; that was over a quarter of a century ago. But here we are in the 21st people and STILL people live in ignorance...

Why would you go somewhere other than Argos for an Argos card? Because you're ignorant of the fact that Argos will do business with you! And THAT'S what the 'legal' loan sharks prey on.. Bottom feeders! (the loan sharks that is!)

The Farepak thang was ridiculous indeed; practically every other method available was superior for the purposes of saving, and the prices for goods actually being 'purchased' were outrageously uncompetitive.

About 15 years ago, to reinforce my 'delusions of grandeur' ;) I started getting a hamper sent up from Harrods at Christmas. You know it was about £10 CHEAPER that the one my mate who still lives in Springburn was paying for his Farepak effort?

I have just read this thread for the first time. I have been very impressed, on the whole, by the friendliness and respect for other people's opinions on this forum. However, I feel the rudeness displayed to other members by the original poster (not to mention what a majority of contributors agree are unethical business practices) make a good case for moderators ban him or her.

Find ways of accessing posh mums in posh locations. A partner company or individual who already sells to this sector would be good. These lovely ladies will spend large sums on anything to make their kids happy - amazing parties, designer clothes etc. I went to bed staring up at a plain white ceiling (not a lot of colour after the war) but made up for it by being illuminating in later life lol
