advertise in the building section of your local newspaper.

put some business cards in the supermarkets, they often have traders cards on a notice board, do the same thing in the local builders merchants.

Have you got a local lads football team you could maybe sponsor some footie shirts or something.

Advertise yourself on google local business.

Try and build on word of mouth by building very reliable and reasonably priced.

Paint your Digger and skips Green, get some free press coverage letting your locals know your environmentally friendly " Go with Green " logo printed on the back and side of your digger and skips.I think people would reconise you then .

I would say there's always opportunities to help yourself stand out from the big boys by building your reputation.

It's about identifying ways in which you can be remembered for all the right reasons with the people who are your potential customers or who may influence them.

I would suggest developing a 'calendar of opportunities' so you are helping to raise your profile and build your reptuation on an ongoing basis.

Here are three to get you started

Community Clear Up Day - contact the Environmental Services Departments in your local councils. Offer to provide a free skip and branded high vis vests/ t-shirts and sponsor a Community Clear Up - this can be promoted via the council website, their residents mag and through the local media. Residents turn up and clean up a local patch, perhaps riverside or messy area and also have the opportunity to bring along bulky goods to put in your skips. You are seen to be supporting your local community and have a great opportunity to advertise your brand. Invite the local media along on the day and you get a further chance to get your brand into the papers.

Estate agent link up - partner with a local estate agent and see if you can advertise on the 'for sale' hoardings. Lots of people moving home want to use a skip.

Adopt a local charity/fundraising campaign at your local hospital. You will be seen to be supporting something worthy in the community and can take part in joint publicity initiatives. Get some of your team to run in a Marathon and do a blog on how the training is going and promote what you are doing to fundraise for your chosen charity. You could offer that a percentage of your skip hire will go to your chosen charity.

    Hope the ideas help.

Definately do something with the diggers to get noticed - then follow it up quickly with a positive PR stunt. For example dig a new wildlife pond for a local school or such.

I also fully support the idea of a humerous tag line on the skips - as it is they're just ugly lumps of steel. Maybe show support for a local football team even??
