Hi,

I have just received a letter saying i owe over £3000 from a debt company which say i owed money to a company which went into administration last year. I have no record of this company and have never heard of them before.

I google the company and found that they are a fire and restoration company which rang a bell with me as the year before last i had a leak and went through my home insurance company who sent out a company who did repairs to my house. Its the only thing i can think of that could relate to it in anyway.

But what i dont understand is i went through my insurance company so don't know why i am being chased for money.

I cant get hold of the person who sent me the letter as they are on holiday until monday but i just wanted to get some advice here as it worries me when something like this happens.

Regards,
Adam

Simply write back and challenge them to provide proof that there has ever been a contract between you and this company, and that any debt exists.

The onus of proof is on the alleged creditor, and if they cannot prove that the debt exists then they can take no further action.

In my experience debt collection companies rarely even bother replying when you challenge them to provide proof in this way. I suspect they just send the file back to their client marked 'non-collectable'.

Agree Bob I have come to the conclusion that if you need a debt collector .DO IT YOURSELF .

If you need a balliff .DO IT YOURSELF !!!.... Whats the point in having a balliff that is more frightened of the debtor than me :)
Im prepared to go in the boxing ring .The Balliffs ran when they were told to F off !!!!
You could not make this stuff up honestly !!!!!!
