Good evening!

I'm a Automotive Electrician, I've been in the trade for the past 17 years.

I'm thinking of going solo, I've seen a little garage with cheap rent and although I could put up a sign and see who walks past the door, that's not the sort of business I want.
It's also very unpredictable doing it that way. as I'm not a Mechanic at all. I'm one of the few true time served Auto Electricians. However that might sound impressive, from a passing trade point of view it limits you/me.

So what I was thinking was I could contact businesses away from my area that would maybe need a Auto Electrician but wouldn't necessarily want to employ one, basically contract work out.
Such as tracking companies, ect.

I've never done this before, so I'm sorry if I sound stupid but I'd rather ask.
Is this normal to do this?
Is it just the sake of asking via a email?
Should there be anything written like a contract if they say yes?
And what would you put in such a letter/email? just keep it blunt?

Also, as I'm not actually trading or anything yet as a solo, is it wrong to ask in advance?
Is it wrong to say something on the lines of, I'm setting up and seeing what business is around (maybe in better words)

I really don't want to deal with the public on a passing trade basis. I'd much rather only deal with companies and maybe their customers as a third party.

In theory I don't actually need a garage and just a van. but having somewhere to work if needed might be good. also having a base for the company might also look better.

If you have not already done it I'd write some words explaining who you are, what you can do, and why the recipient of whatever communication you are sending should contact you immediately to secure your services.

I'm sure if you were to publish that here lots of people would give you some very helpful feedback. Good luck!
