Gateway & Merchant advice.

Hi,

We have been trading for 4 weeks now, but I am struggling to get a payment gateway & merchant account set up, and I have been trying since well before we launched.
We are currently using Paypal express as our only means of payment, and I have tried to apply for a couple of set ups but been turned down.
We are a limited company but my own credit score is poor, and this is holding us back. Our bank accounts are with Barclays so I tried there thinking it would be ok as they were fine to set up the accounts after a credit check, but after waiting two weeks we were refused.

Is there not anyone we could go to who would supply us with gateway & merchant services?! I dont want to go through each one in turn just to keep getting refused. This is very annoying as I dont see what the huge risk is in handling our payments.

Have you tried PaymentSense? The risk criteria is lower than the banks plus we take consideration of your business trading history - Bank credit scoring/risk assessment is usually much more complex than an independent - higher chance of being accepted but you may have to run through some hoops providing paperwork - our provisioning team is very good at helping get businesses accepted where banks particularly have a black-n-white view of these things.

www.paymentbrain.co.uk is a very useful and impartial comparison tool. There are a few payment gateway and merchant account providers, on these forums, that will be able to offer you valuable advice if you make contact with them.

Have you tried applying for PayPal Pro? Just be careful as they will most likely look for a rolling reserve when you start. If you take it up make sure you can afford the rolling reserve.

Well, you should have some required information to set up a merchant account like account details of the merchant's personal or business account. This information can be given in the form of Voided Check from the personal account or a letter from the bank with the account details.
