Gallery Ads are coming

Google Ads is due to launch another 'game changer this year. A new type of Mobile Ads, called Gallery Ads.
It will show your ad for the top search result position with relevant images included (video embedding should also be available in the future).

Your business product gallery has just become more important than ever.
The full update is on Search Engine Land.

P.S - I wonder if profetional photographers and video makers could use this to promote their services?

Without watching for 2.5 hours anyone see how this is vastly going to change PLA's?

I don't think it will, as Google is trying to match different ad types with specific moments within the purchase cycle. While one type is more effective with product exploration, another will produce higher engagement rates in later stages.
If any, organic search results will suffer the most.

I watched the woman at 52:20 and saw carousel ads, my experience with facebook was not great using these. Video was way better There an argument for reducing choice where consumers are involved. I guess they are keeping things fresh. Also she then talked about deep linking into apps. That is not something most people have so this is for bigger brands. Quite interesting for those in advertising- I may watch more of it. Thanks.

I probably would have said that a few years ago.

Have you ever watched the show Silicon Valley? It's a very amusing take on how people in these monolithic software companies operate in 'the valley'.

It's very cult-like and these people believe their own bull5hit. They act like robots.

I totally appreciate they are there to drive innovation but they often create products for profit rather than solving real problems for consumers.

Part of Google's success was down to it being so simple to use. When it started it was an alternative to the cluttered likes of Yahoo, Altavista and Excite.

Now Google has put them all out of business, it has turned into the very same profit-seeking machine. A Google results page is now very cluttered.

I wonder if DuckDuckGo (who do not collect user data) will end up taking some market share. Maybe eventually but Google has become a common household term, like Hoover.

I can't remember where I read it but I saw that one search engine (possibly Duck Duck Go) was looking to share revenues / pay consumers for watching ads they were interesting in.

So, rather than passing all their money to the search engine, retailers knew that they were engaging eyeballs and potential customers in a deeper, more meaningful way.

For example, would you rather have 100 clicks with a 70% bounce rate on paid search or 100 guaranteed views of a video for 30 seconds?

I know it's still open to abuse but, as a consumer, I would watch far more content from brands I'm interested in and probably become a more loyalty customer if I like their content. It also wouldn't be a forced ad like on YouTube. It would be something I WANT to watch.

There's a big difference and it would mean that consumers experience wasn't hi-jacked by the brand that pays the biggest bucks.
