Hi there,

Hope someone can give me a bit of guidance here. I'm a bit lost really (now i know why you're supposed to leave stuff like this to experts!).

I'm using Fasthosts to host my website, and have been trying to FTP pages all morning, but i can't do it! I'm using Ipswitch Ws_FTP and using all the correct information provided my Fasthosts but can't make it work (it keeps saying connection failed or something).

It's driving me bonkers as I just want to get my site live!!!!!!!!!

Aaagh!

Speak to Jamie at Matrixx Hosting - he'll sort it for you! I use FTP an dhave used Ipswitch before. Do you have a firewall that might be blocking it? Have you put the correct user name & password and set the correct ftp host etc...? Sometimes, if you just log out and back in again it'll work.

Seriously though, Jamie is a whizz on these things.

PASV kick in once connected (PASV means that the FTP server 'pushes' the info rather than you 'pulling' I think)

Check your username and password and that your connecting to the right machine (try machine name as well as by IP)

Also. Does the FTP client have any other FTP sites set up to can check so you can test them to rule them out?

I thought I'd cracked it but alas, no.

I'm using all the things fasthosts is instructing me to. I've checked port 21. I've done everything.

I changed the security settings and it seemed to work, but it's now coming up with another message:

Address lookup of " ftp.morethanwordsmedia.com" failed. It may be misspelled, or your computer may not be connected to the network or Internet.
Also check that your DNS and local name servers are properly configured and responding.

But it's not wrong!! What is/are my DNS and local name servers?

Well once you've browsed to it, you can drag and drop your files from Windows Explorer into Internet Explorer - does the same as the IPSwitch thingy.

Sounds like a mis-configuration with WS_FTP to me, but don't worry about it if you can use Internet Explorer.

Just to say thank you to everyone - especially Stephen!!!!!

It's now sorted - found loads of glitches in my design though so will probably spend the rest of the night tracking down broken links!

Thanks again though!!
