Freight Service: Import From China to UK

What is the most cost-effective freight forwarder for importing from China to the UK for a small shipment (less than 5KG), to start? I have a FedEx account but the cost is high. I am looking for options for shipping by sea and delivering the goods to my door in the UK.

Hi Dave.

For 5kg, unless the shipment is VERY high volume, the costs for sea freight will not be fantastic, as you are paying for minimums, eg freight is normally minimum 1000kg or 1m3, Terminal Handling is normally a minimum of 1000kg or 2m3. Customs Clearance and certain costs are fixed. Air freight would likely be more expensive, as again you are looking at alot of minimum costs. I would suggest that for that sort of size, the courier option (Be it FedEx, DHL or similar), would be your best bet.

Get your China supplier to give you a quote by air courier, door to door. They'll be cheaper than what you'll be quoted in UK.

I regularly ship small parcels, 1-2 per month, 5-10 kilo from China to UK by air freight. Always tell my suppliers, do not use Fedex or DHL, use Yuntu Transport instead, very quick, door to door.
