Freelancing websites?

I would be interested to know what are the most popular UK websites for finding freelance software work.

I'm the cofounder of a 3 year-old mobile app development company and although so far, we found our customers using alternative channels (e.g.: adwords, word of mouth), we are considering bidding on those freelance / people-per-hour websites.

There are many of these sites though and it's hard to know which ones are the most serious, relevant to the services we offer.

Anyway any advice, or anecdotes as users of such websites would be much appreciated!

www.peopleperhour.com and www.odesk.com are very popular. I think the main thing is to get a clear proposition on what you want to do with your profile on there and have some template bids prepared and offers to make.

I have taken several people off people per hour and freelancers. Once they do a decent small job I tend to deal outside the environment.

Same as @Moneyman, have used both a couple of times for small jobs and then worked directly instead. Those sites have their own rating ecosystem so its important to play by their rules and get as many reviews and recommendations from customers as possible.

odesk.com and Elance.com are the most popular website for freelancing work.

 

[TMSS]

People per Hour have recently changed the way their site works. It now looks for a very specific set of primary skills and only gives you access to work showing those skills. This is causing huge problems for its users. If you are thinking of signing up drop me a message & I would be happy try & help you avoid the problems. I would avoid it at present though.
