What is the best insurance for freelancer or sole trader that works soley in IT?

My work involves mobile app, pc software and website developement.

However i also provide various IT services including but not limited to social media marketing, social media services, marketing, i work on clients wbesites/blogs to implement fixes or new features such as monetization and speed improvements.

Ive tried ringing Axa and they said its not something they can cover so i assume other might say the same thing.

So just wanted to know if anyone knows of some that do.

Also if you just work from home or anoffice and dont actually meet clients or go to their houses etc.. do you still public liability insurance?

Hi

We had a couple of thoughts which are slightly off the exact question but may (we hope) be helpful:

If you are working under your clients’ contract this may specify the types of insurance you are required to have in place (and the level). This could be under their T&Cs which could be incorporate by reference (for example their PO states that its subject to their T&Cs).

Even if you have appropriate insurance, a way to avoid having an insurance claim is to protect yourself in your T&Cs. These should be drafted in your best interests and attempt to limit your liability, meaning that even if an issue with a client occurred if this is excluded under the T&Cs you would not be required to pay out, for example pay damages, and so insurance wouldn’t need to be called on. While this wouldn’t avoid the need for insurance, it would limit when you needed to rely on it.

Hope that helps give you some things to consider.

I have always heard good things about Hiscox and would look for them....Simply Business however be careful if using DD.

I arranged one of my insurances through them and they were brilliant but they outsource the direct debit to a company called Premium Credit who are horrific! Bank wouldnt allow the DD to be set up as believed to be fraud and called 14 hours after and they still charged me £25.

Only use SimplyBusiness if paying up front by card imo.
