Free Website metatag assessment sites

A few months ago I'm sure that I saw a post with the name of a website that would run a free automated check on the metatags and page structures on a website homepage and would provide an output "like your description is ok", "your title is fine", etc etc.

I just can't remember the best site's name. Can any of you enlighten me as I am having a "senior moment"?

thanks

Romper,

There are bags of sites that do this for you BUT most of them differ in opinion so ask 10 sites you'll have 10 different reports telling you to go in 10 different directions.

If you like PM me with the url of the page that needs checking and the keyword phrase and I'll run a check for you. Totally free and very comprehensive.

If you need more than one page doing then you'll be able to see how we did the first one and it should give you some guidelines for the rest.

Hope this helps,

Rob

Hi Romper

I was trying to do this sort of thing with my site. In the end I created the meta tags myself from an article that I found on the net. Email me and I will send you the article excerpt.

Cheers

Hi Romper

Not sure how much you know about meta tags, but just in case, you should bear in mind that they are no where near as important as they used to be.

The title tag is important, but do not worry too much about your description and keywords tags. The description should just be appealing for human readers, as this may form part of the description on the search engine results page.

The keywords tag is pretty much ignored by search engines now, as this area was subjected to so much abuse by webmasters. It seems that Google does not even look at it.

Sites that offer services for helping with meta tags are just a waste of time and / or money. Just concentrate on the page title and body text that is written in a natural, human friendly style.

Apart from that, get on a few directories and exchange links with a handful of complimentary websites. Lots of quality, visible page content is the key.
