Free Returns?

I shop on asos for clothing sometimes and really like the fact that I can return goods for free if don't like them. I definitely make purchases I otherwise wouldn't if I had to pay to return the item.

Just not sure if it would work on our site ie. if any increased sales would cover the cost of all the return postage.

We will probably test this out at some stage but wondered if anyone who has been there, done that has any thoughts?

By law you need to offer returns under the distance selling regulations

You need to build into your prices as it can look great to customers

That's not correct. The law states that you must offer the customer the right to cancel with 7 days of the customer receiving the item. It does not state that you must pay for the return of the item unless the item is faulty or an incorrect item was sent.

With apparel I think you would be very unwise to offer free returns since women in particular (my wife definitely included!) can be prolific at 'buying to try' on the web and then sending stuff back because it doesn't fit or doesn't look as good as they thought it would, on them. You will get customers buying multiple products and then keeping maybe one item, sometimes none of them and by the time you paid the return shipping on the items you haven't made any money.

It really does depend on the type of item. We sell Cow Parade Figurines that are made of both resin and ceramic. For damaged items, we offer a free returns service where the customer pays for returns postage and is refunded this cost once the item has been inspected. For items where a customer simply changes their mind, they can return the item but are responsible for return postage costs.

Works well for us....

I agree with TotallySport. Trust is everything online and Chris is right with what he is saying about returns and cancellations. Above all make EVERYTHING clear to me as a potential punter and I will trust you and you services
