Hi Yankee candle man

I'm similar to yourself, confectionery though, started four years ago, did a two year stint as Chamber of Commerce Chairman (highly recommended for acquiring contacts).

How have you found trade? Me 2009 got worse until March 2010 when hit our lowest then it picked up about 8% -10% a month until getting back to 2009 in August. Introduced new lines in September which shot us back to 2008 and now steadily (for steadily read "slowly";) growing week on week. It's getting better.

We decided to expand last April when the market was at rock bottom and negotiated a deal for a larger unit in a busier shopping centre for less rent than we were currently paying so our overheads went down and our profits, turnover and footfall went up. Risky but it worked.

I did something similar - in Jan 2008 went for bigger shop next door at £4k a year more, then the recession came - great timing . But seems we have made it through (Christmas pending!) and worth it in the long run :)

I don't think the mods have time to check every post. It has been said before on the other forums that if you see a spammy post, you should hit the red triangle in the top right of the post to alert the mods, who'll then delete as appropriate :)

Only 5 years in business. Get out there young man, do the knowledge, get some experience and then we might ask you for advice.

Thanks Lorro.

5 years in this business.

Before I was Business Manager for Mercedes Benz and a Sales Manager at one of the largest Ford Dealerships in England. But I am sure you don't need any advice, your people skills will see you through life.
