There are a whole load of different options for free SEO software, although finding something that suits your needs basically depends on exactly what you want to do.

Rank tracking and "research" SEO software has a more diverse range of free options, whereas free link building tools are hard to come by (especially ones that are actually reliable and deliver good results).

Obviously I'm biased and will recommend Traffic Travis, but other things you might try are the Google Keyword Tool, Ubersuggest, and Microsite Masters (this is a really awesome rank tracking website/tool).

Also, if you see a premium software that you like the look of, then I suggest that you contact the product owner and see if they can arrange a free trial for you.

Is the free version of SEO spyglass is available ? And if it is available then what is the source to download it ?
http://www.link-assistant.com/seo-spyglass/
The free version doesn't expire, but it has some limitations.

By the way, there is another free backlink checker i like

http://webmeup.com/tools/backlinks.html

It lets you check 1000 links without registration, and if you want to download the full list (for free, mind you), you'll have to provide an email.

I have visited the link you have send and as you said it has limit for 1000 links. So after utilizing those 1000 links can i register with new account and gain another 1000 links.

Hello hassel67,
thank you for checking our backlink tool.

You don't have to register another account, as the number of checks in WebMeUp backlink tool is not limited. You can enter any URL, and no registration is required at this stage.

And there is actually no limit to a number of links you gain too. You just get the first 1,000 links directly on the page, while the rest is downloadable in Excel.

I am really thankful to you that you have explained all the facts related to this tool. I think its impressive to see that the tool is free to use. But tell me about the progress of it and reputation as well.

Has anyone tried Screaming Frog? There's a free version for download and the full version costs a one off £99. Reading around a lot of SEO's seem to recommend it. Might be cheaper for some people than a monthly subscription to Moz or Majestic.

They are completely different tools. Moz and Majestic are primarily link research tools.

Screaming frog is a crawler that is used for on site SEO.

Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up. What's you opinion of AHREF's comapred to Majestic and Moz? It seems much more clear and easier to understand/use than the other two on first glance.

I like both.

Ahrefs probably finds links quicker and more links and has the nice interface.

Majestic is cheaper, British and you can do quite a lot with it.

Tbh though I don't use them that often, only for diagnosing bad links or sometimes competitor link research.

But competitor link analysis is often a waste of time as you have no idea if they have disavowed certain links and in many cases you wouldn't want to copy their links anyway.

Also - Google WMT is providing way more link data these days so you they are getting phased out almost for link cleanup.

Cheers for the info Jonathan. Didn't realise Majestic was British either.
