Hi guys

The time has come to upgrade to a franking machine, we are doing on average 70 packets a month 90% are Royal Mail upto 500g packets, so after doing the calculations on royal mails website the discounts in postage now more than cover rental costs.

But my question is who is the best? Can anyone recomend a franking rental company, what they charge and what their customer service is like?

Thanks in advance

Check out the long term costs. Some places (e.g. Pitney Bowes) will offer you an unbeatable upfront deal, but you'll later discover you're paying through the nose to top up the machine's funds, or for the smartcard that updates prices each April.

If you can, it's worth holding fire for a couple of weeks until Royal Mail announce their prices from April 2013, as that will have an effect on all your price comparisons.

Wait a couple of months. The limit for a Royal Mail account and using their despatch manager systems is coming down to 1,000 parcels a year. You would then have zero rental costs and zero stationary costs as RM supply the stationary. The only cost you need is the one off purchase of a printer that can print 4x4 inch thermal labels. Zebra is the one recommended.

We have been discussing the same thing with RM this week. Their advice is wait till price/volume changes are confirmed that are on their way. Software and online account provided by RM, you just need to source thermal printer and sticky labels.

    Hi Ryan,

I my self sell franking machine and they can be a good upgrade IF you go with the right supplier my company skarlet can supplier all 4 supliers Neopost,Pitney Bowes,Frama,FP.

Things to watch out for is PB charge you to top up your own machine with credit, And all of them will offer you a tiny machine at 15pounds a month but they dont tell you the inks cost 110+ and you will use one per qtr where the next one up will use one ink per a year for example.

But if you are interested don't hesitate to drop me a pm
