Found a name need next step help

Hello,

As above, i think i have found a name for my company, i have checked on 123 reg and it is available is there anywhere i can check to make sure it hasnt already been copyrighted with someone, i want to make sure no one else has it before i go ahead and purchase the .co.uk domain name!

If someone could advise it would be really helpful!

You can try a search on ipo.gov.uk and if you're going Ltd then you will need to do a search at companies house.

Also, spend some time on google, this will allow you to see if the name is being used online.

You probably had already planned to do this but it would be advantageous to claim a couple more domains like the .com ect as well as incorrectly spelt versions and point them to the original .co.uk, 123-reg is great for this, really straight forward and user friendly, with their prices too it'll just aid to catching as much traffic as possible from people who instantly think to put .com instead of .co.uk. That's what we found anyway when we started with the .co.uk

Hi Nikki,

Don't know how much value to put on this, but I was told that once some-one has searched for a name it can show up on searches that less scrupulous people do, they then buy up the names and then try to sell them back to you at inflated prices. It may well be best to buy your chosen name, plus as others have said the .com or whatever as well.

I have the .com, the .co.uk and another local name all pointing to the .co.uk which I use for our main site. This was just as well as a competitor who hadn't yet got a site then had to use a much longer name incorporating their town in the name - for example, dogsbody.co.uk is me, they have dogsbodynottingham.co.uk - which is nowhere near as good.

Dive in quick and get your names if you are certain they are what you want. I think it's only about £25. It could be worth it in the long run.

I've registered all my domains through 123-reg and currently hosting through them, and a very happy customer. ALTHOUGH if you look at their reviews on the internet, they are rated very poorly. It's only familiarity that keeps me going back for other domain names and hosting.

Actually this could be a better name for getting found on the search engines if they are targeting a local marketplace.

 

Much better in general to use a search keyword rich domain than a company name to attract visitors to your website.


Hence B&Q uses the website domain.www.diy. com
