Hi form P87 - tax relief for expenses of PAYE employees.... it says you dont need to send anything with the form and if HMRC need info they will contact you.... surely they are going to need some mileage proof eg MOT logs, and a P60 or wage slip / photo id to validate identity?

even though they say you dont have to send anything with claim is it not wise to do so?

i would phone HMRC to ask them but trying to do that will make me go grey and or bald!

Like most things in UK tax it is a system of "self assessment" - you tell HMRC how much tax you think you are due back. If they smell a rat, they will launch an enquiry, and if you have claimed falsely they will hit you with penalties of up to 100% of the tax at stake (plus interest). So no need to send anything in, just make sure you have everything available in the event of an enquiry.
