Hello
I would like to introduce flexitime to our business but am way out of touch with modern systems .

How do you cope with staff that have to go out of the office on visits or to exhibitions or are working from home ?

Are all log in systems computerised now ? rather than the old card system ? If so how can you cover "false" logging in?

Thanks

The most obvious way is to base it on trust. Update your staff handbook to detail "mandatory hours" if you want them, such as 10 til 12 and 2 til 4 and then allow your staff to work their contracted hours around those times.

It is a paradigm shift away from "being at work" to "doing work" which some companies (and employees) find a difficult adjustment and it requires a level of supervision and buy-in from managers, but in the long term you should benefit from more engaged and better enabled employees.

One of my better decisions was to create a system of flexible days/time off for my staff. Sometimes wages are not enough to encourage loyalty, hard work and dedication. I realised that my staff were often stuck with problems like appointmments with dentists, repairmen at home and dealing with other personal stuff. I gave them one day off a week in return for flexi working on the other days. It worked very well. Its all based on trust and they work out the times they cover each other.
