Hi there,

I am entering into the world of bricks and mortar! I am looking to purchase a light industrial unit which will be used as a showroom/warehouse facility. How would I go about fitting the unit out? It is a complete shell at present.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Who did you use? Where they good/bad? And what costs should I be thinking about for a retail space of around 600-1000SQ FT?

How will the unit be divided up? (office/showroom/storage/etc)?

You will need a carpenter, electrician and consent from your landlord, as well as showing him the plans for approval and ensuring that all the work is done to a satisfactory standard as well as any required certification.

Some landlords will require you to remove any work done at the end of your lease.

As regards to fitting the showroom area, what products will you be displaying?

Local craftsmen are your best bet.

Depends entirely what you're planning to display.

When I opened mine (on a shoestring, 4 years ago) I basically had four bare walls. I did one with tegometall shelving to 2.1M high and the rest of the walls with slatwall. Did it all myself and it was easy.

If you look about, you can get used tegometall easily and slatwall isn't too expensive either, but that may not suit what you want to do.

Hi guy's, thanks for the interest.

We will be displaying a variety of products which includes Bikes, Clothing, Accessories, Winter equipment (skis/boots) and will also be looking for a 'workshop' style space where we can service the bikes and winter equipment.

Ideally the unit will be divided up into 3 spaces; Warehouse/workshop, a small office space and a showroom.

I was a founding director of Cotswold Outdoor many years ago so relate to the sports world well and now design and fit shops as well as give support and knowledge through Retail Club UK
