We launched an affiliate scheme recently and despite offering very good whole lifetime commissions we have found it quite difficult to find affiliates to join the scheme. Does anyone know of any sites where affiliate schemes are advertised for affiliates to find or have any other ideas?

Thanks.

Affiliate schemes are risky for publishers. You'll struggle to find affiliates and keep them due to the follwing:

1. Great traffic websites whose site are big enough and/or where the site's users will click your links/banners. Eg: a site can have good traffic (100k a year), but its users avoid 'dodgy looking' links, and wont click onto biased placed links.

2. Affiliates won't join upto anything they think they wont earn from, no matter how cool your sales pitch is. Useless is just that, so to speak and those desperate publishers that do sign with you, if they dont make money fast, they delete your code so fast you won't notice if your code has been on their sites or not. I'm saying if no cash is made within 1 month, you'll be removed.

A website's userbase lets a publisher know very quickly if certain links will work or not. A link with funny looking code eg: affiliateid - 11000.ft78jk888 - won't produce click-throughs. Zero clickthrough rates are bad enough, but even if traffic click the links, zero conversions are the next problem. If the clicks are happening, but conversions are zero, then you'll lose.

This is soooo hard to make work for you.

15% of £10 is not a lot of money to chase, even as a lifetime commission.

As an example, if I promoted to one of my lists, I'd expect to make £1200 at best. That's about equivalent to minimum wage :) I doubt I'd come close to that, as I doubt there are many smokers on that list. Most promotions to that list would earn 50/60 times that...

Perhaps locate some small businesses whose customers are smokers who want to give up and see if they'd be interested. Struggling to think of any examples at this time of night... :) Maybe newsagents? If they haven't ever done any affiliate marketing, you might be able to convince them of the value...

It is quite time consuming and it can be full time job. Here is how I found affiliates in the past:

Create a keyword list that you would want your website to be advertised on. I can assume for your website 'flavored cigars' can be one of the keyword. Take this keyword and search on Google for blogs that has this keyword in it. To search this type ''blog: electronic cigars''. You will get list of 50 blog that has this keyword in it. Now you need to check each website to see if they can be any potantial affiliate for you. Collect the ones that can approach on excel sheet (You can create one excel sheet with following titles: URL, CONTACT EMAIL, PHONE, NOTES)

I think you can also target blogs talks about health, cancer, skin, etc ..

You can either contact them by sending bulk email ( if you do this speak to your mail provider and let them know what you are doing as if they think you are spamming, they may close your account)
or send them individual email to invite them to join your affiliate program.

Now this is one of doing it. You can also find forums and big websites where you would think you could advertise your affiliate program - but i wouldn't go into that root as advertising your item directly is more important than advertising your affiliate program. I hope that helps. Good luck.

PS: I quite liked your website by the way. Colours are a bit boyish but it is very informative and user friendly.
