Famous Quotes and copyright?

Trying to determine the legality of using a quote attributed to a famous designer on our website

Whilst I understand that some quotes are copyrighted........ MC Michael Buffers 'Let's get ready to Rumble' for example i'm looking at more simple things such as...

'Come up and see me some time'........which is fairly general but could be attributed to Mae West

If used, should or could the quote be attributed to it's alleged author?
