Hi,

I recently set up a facebook page here I thought I would be able to use the account like a normal facebook one and search other businesses to like ect. However, I can't.

Have I set it up wrong? or am I being thick?

None of the normal tabs are across the top.

Any help would be good.
Thanks
Phil

Hi there PDRD,

No you're not using it incorrectly and I've taken the liberty of having a look at your fb page and you'll be glad to know your page is up and running correctly.

Whilst fb has a platform for business it only extends to those who have liked your page (which should be public) and those who search for it.

I have a page on fb and use it loosely, I tend to use twitter, linked In, four square and google+. You may find it helpful to create your page on these sites. These pages also have apps for the iPhone (which I have but unsure for android or HTC phones).

Also to collate the above pages use hootsuite (app available).
Hootsuite will deliver one message to all the above mentioned pages to minimise having to go to each one individually and entering details (you must link these first though but very easy to do).

I hope this is helpful to you, you can certainly reach a larger audience as I have :)

Best wishes,
ICU Clean

@PDRD - if you have your own Facebook account, the business page should be available under your personal "Pages". You should be able to switch to operating as the page. On the little flower/wheel link on the right, when you click and see the options and/or to Logout, you should also find the ability to use the Facebook as the page.

@hevs - Yes, you have set it up as a person, not as a page, hence you need to be a friend (of the user) before you can interact. Setting up a business page is probably a good idea, and you should be able to create the page from that user. You will have a bit of a slog asking people to like the page, but you can speed things up by using the Facebook add-ons for your website(s).

This link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/create/ guides you through the process of creating a page for your business. If you are logged in as the user 'conveyor-manufacturers', the page will assume that user as the Administrator. Once the page has acquired more than 30 likes (I think), you can request a unique URI, as you have done with the user account. You will not be able to use the same URI, as it's already taken, so something like facebook.com/pages/conveyor-manufacturers might be suitable instead.

I do not believe you will lose the URI, although you can surrender it and try to use it on the page, once it has enough likes. It may be worth getting in touch with FB's technical support to see if you can convert your current account to a business page, or to ask what methods they have available to ensure you do not lose anything.

Hi. I do have a personal Facebook account but set the business page up as it's own entity. So it is not linked to my personal account and it is not a page in my account.
Why can I not search facebook with it?

Login using the account you created to create the page. You can then go to Manage Page > Page Admins and add your facebook account as a page manager. This means you do nto have to remember two logins.

When you visit the FaceBook Page as a page manager a bar appears at the top which says "comment and use facebook as this page". Click this.

You can then go to other companies pages and like them and even comment as the page on other pages. You can not however send friend requests to standard facebook users.

I too have recently set up a business page and created an ad. I've set it up to send my message out, however, reading the above am I better off getting as many likes as I can to begin with so that anyone who has liked my page will be targeted/seeing any offers etc I may be offering?

Thanks

If you meant running facebook advertising, you dont need people to like your page to target them - you can target any audience base you prefer, and the conversion point is probably to get them to like your page.

Personally I think quantity of 'likes' is good but quality is also important. Display irrelevant ad to users could piss them off and nowadays there are plenty of tools out there could block irritating ads. I would suggest keep your ad delivery clean and targeted to reach your right audience, keep your page content rich, useful for the users so that the right people will genuinely like your page and stay with you (without unlike it later on). I had personal experience with a web development page that I genuinely 'liked' but it later on constantly showed ads and irrelevant updates in my home feeds to a point I had to dislike the page and hit 'report spam' button a number of times to keep my home feeds clean.

If you access fb from your phone you cannot search for businesses.
If you access fb from you laptop/pc you CAN search for businesses (just like you would a person from your personal account).

I only know this because I have just done it this morning :) YAY go me! lol

Advertising is costly so like as many businesses who would benefit from your services but don't restrict yourself - thinking outside the box is always handy to :)

Good luck and best wishes,

Think we're getting confused here (prob my fault).

Your original comment said you could search for Facebook business pages from your iPhone.

Did you mean search for others 'as your business' or as personal?

If business, can you explain how you're doing it and then what exactly you can do from there?

You can search for other businesses on your iPhone as a user. Not as another page. However if you "Like" other business pages as your page (done on the web interface) then you can view these pages and interact with them via the Pages app. A bit backwards and would prefer to be able to like other business pages as a page on the phone but doesn't seem possible yet (I think).

We had the same issue initially. We created a proper FB business page as per the instructions but after a few months realised we were missing some functionality. Neither me nor my business partner had a personal facebook profile prior to this. In order to get the full functioning we wanted, we had to create a separate personal profile then make this new email/login a Manager of the page and hey presto this solved it. Basically the original set up and email we used to create the business page was a 'page-only' login and we needed a separate personal login to control the page.
