Facebook 'Likes'

Hi All,

I have a Facebook page and have been telling customers to like it as ive been told its beneficial to have a page linked to your website, and the more likes the better. It was originally suggested to me that 200 likes was minimum that you needed to make any benefit, another friend then contradicted this and said 500+.

Is there a number you need to achieve to benefit from, I am asking as I think people are getting fed up with me asking them to like it and if the magic number is 5000 likes then theres not much point me trying to achieve this

The best advice I can give you is use your Facebook Page for what it is... your social business webpage.

There isn't going to be a huge benefit by bothering people that in all honesty probably won't engage with your page after they've liked it.

What will benefit you & your business is to build the page up (just like you website) with original & quality content that people feel compelled to engage and share...

With this in mind you need to acquire a relevant fan base and this can take time but will serve you well in the long term.

There is no quick win...

Start by building a small but solid foundation of fans who are generally interested in your page and what you do, once you have some good content I would consider running a laser targeted Facebook Ads campaign to build your fan base further... you will eventually get to a tipping point where you will have a bigger enough fan base that it will then continue to acquire likes so long as you service it with great content.

Oh and my biggest piece of advice, don't just shout... "buy this" or "we have this" or "check our sale" or "visit our site"... listen to your fan base and engage, stamp your personality on the page and make it personable...

Without a doubt social is playing a bigger part in SEO but look at the bigger picture it's not just about targeting some ranking signals of an algorithm... it's an opportunity to engage your market using other networks.

It's not so much how many you have, but how active they are.
I would much rather have 5 active users than 500 non active.

Treat it as a hobby, try to stay active yourself (not just on your page, but on other peoples too) and try to connect with other active people.

Theres no set rule and it will be different depending on your base of customers and what you do.

We're aroun 1,120 fans at the moment on our page (which is also Zebra themed ) and we're getting a good interaction with our fans at the moment. (all be it the same usal susspects)

Agree with all I've read here I think. How can anyone talk about a minimum number of "Likes" to get a benefit when I and presumably they don't want what your objectives are from the page?

Thanks for your input, this social media experiment is all new to me but what you have said makes good sense and i will try to keep postings and content good and interactive

It is something more you should be active in a way of posting things on your account and it is most important too.
