My sister just received this email from FB, however i am not sure if its real. She certainly did not join on 6 Oct 2011.

Hi xxx,
You joined Facebook on Oct 06, 2011, but you still haven't confirmed your account.
To confirm, simply follow this link:
http://www.facebook.com/n/?confirme...443891dG0G58&code=63475759&n_m=xxx40gmail.com
And that's it! Once you do this, you'll have access to all of Facebook's features - commenting, photo sharing, event planning and more.
Important: After today, you'll be unable to log in to your Facebook account until you complete this step.
You may be asked to enter this confirmation code: xxx
Again, welcome!
Thanks,
The Facebook Team

the thing that is puzzling me is the email they used - its her's but she has a FB acct using a different email.

i am inclined to ignore it for 24 hours, but i dont want her real acct to be jepardised as it has her business fan page attached to it

Here is how to check if an email is genuine or not.

You have to look at the full headers of the message.
There most probably will appear another email as sender.
Look for the 'from:' headers.

In Gmail you can see the headers by clicking the little arrow next to the
'Reply' link up right - that is when you opened the message.
There you will see 'Show original' link - click it and look for another
'from:' email address.

Most probably this is the case here, because otherwise you received
this email from a legitimate facebook email server.
