30 mins ago Facebook crashed - what shocked me is how many people started to text.

Most of them were about "facebook has been hacked or Facebook has crashed".
Does Facebook really control everyones social interaction that much.

Would a back-up social network be prudent?

I think it does. I was chatting to my friends via a FB private group page - as I do most evenings - when it went down suddenly and felt quite bereft for the rest of the evening!

Facebook went down!?!?!?

What will all them poor babies, soldiers and unfortunate people get now that they can't have them urgently needed "likes" ? 1 like = 1 respect / are Facebook disrespectful?

Them pictures really wind me up if you didn't catch that.

1 thanks = 1 agree.

Didn't notice anything about Facebook being down.. no one contacted me about it either. Some people are just too dependent on facebook and technology... sadly that's the world we live in.

But there are already a million social networks.. they can just move from one to another

People have intergrated their social habits onto facebook.
    1) it cost less (no more buying rounds in pubs)
    2) you can pick and choose who you speak to
    3) Safer in some aspects (where else is safer than at home)
    4) you can throw a sheep at someone without having to worry about the RSPCA

People have become addicted to social media and constant contact.
