I'm just posting today to hear others experiences of using Facebook ad's and what works best for you.

I'll share mine first. We're selling ladies jewellery through a Shopify store.

We're currently testing between three types of ad at the moment, all run on a budget of £5 each a day. We're running one boosted post and one carousel ad focusing on the same product to see which gets better results - currently the boosted post is performing better in regards to both clicks and conversions, which is really contrasting with most of the information regarding FB ad's I've seen on various blogs and resources around the web. The carousel is doing okay, but it isn't pulling up any tree's. They're both targeting the same audience too.

We're also running a third ad, again a boosted post but this is to grown brand awareness across IG & Instagram. This one does convert sales (we can tell from landing page & promo code they use) but it has really helped grow our FB & IG followings, which in turn should hopefully provide a ROI over time.

The ad's are doing okay the moment but I'm cautious of raising budgets as they're not driving huge traffic or sales (we're getting around 150-200 people, 5-10 sales daily from the ads) I don't know weather I'm expecting too much from a small budget or if these ad's are actually performing well but we just need to up the budget.

I'd love to thoughts, should I raise budget? Should I adjust audience & try a new ad? What ad's are working best for you guys?

Hi

Can you share more information regarding the actual ad content? wording/images it may explain the different in ROI you're getting.

Personally, I think 5-10 sales/day from a £5 budget is amazing!

It's interesting that your brand awareness ad is the most effective one. Usually that shouldn't be the case - but again, depending on the actual ad.

Hi.

We have a weird way about deciding on what we're going to advertise as we have range of over 500 products. We post 4-5 times daily to IG & FB organically and over the course of a month we monitor which items / pictures get the best engagement back, following this we then look to use these images / products in ads.

So for instance we choose a ring which is a: selling organically b: gets great engagement organically and c: we have good photography for then we usually use the image that originally got good engagement. If it's a boosted post we sometimes go back to the old post (3-4 weeks old) and edit the text (our IG posts are like how cute are these? Which is your fave? type posts) to something that sells (usually something like how cute is this product, grab yours for x price and save x amount off your first order / free shipping / some sort of deal to incentives new customers)

The carousel ad we're using has the same first image as the boosted post, then additional images of the product being worn, close up etc with the same text and same audience.

We used our all time most engaged image from IG / FB for the engagement ad. We just added a selling message and a discount code so we can track sales a little better as I don't believe we can choose the tracking pixel for boosted posts. We targeted a fairly broad audience on the ad but here's the rough performance breakdown.

Budget £5 daily
Total spend £75
Total reach 105K
Engagements 30k
We've had 1.1K hits to the landing page advertised (can't guarantee they're all from the ad, but I made that page specifically as a landing page for that ad)
Conversions using the discount code - 119.

How big is your target audience? And how much of it have you already reached?

£0.63 per conversion is phenomenal.

Yeah, this ad is working well, it's a shame they all don't go that way. The two ad's targeting a specific item aren't doing as well in terms of sales.

Audience is 330K. I've also just noticed I messed up the target audience of the two single product ads, they're targeting way too many people.

when you say conversion does that mean sale? Facebook has a weird way of calling certain CTAs as conversions. If you've got the Facebook pixel installed and you've got it set up correctly you should be able to track everything from add to cart, initiate checkout, to completed purchases in terms of quantity and value. I use this to determine if my remarketing ads are working and see pretty good returns of anywhere between 3:1 to 5:1.

This is what I mean about tracking all the web events like add to cart etc. This is the breakdown of my ads in the last 30 days. Unfortunately last 7 days or so my ROI has dropped as quite a few products are out of stock so wasting money on clicks that aren't converting...

I have tested FB advertising on 4 occasions sometime apart and I found it to be very poor for my business even though one can allegedly target by the precise market demographic/ interestwe are chasing.
What is your demographic? What ad have you been putting in front of them? What has the call to action been?
