Exporting to China

Hi all,

I am trying to get a better understanding of the potential issues/pitfalls with exporting to China and was wondering if anyone had any experiences they could share, or any advice to give? Also, if anyone can recommend a good forwarder, that would be good too.

We are thinking of exporting a luxury product (jewellery) and are not sure how "gung-ho" (yes - it's hilarious) Chinese customs are, or whether they sometimes need a backhander etc to get things done.

hi,now it is a good time to export to china, it is a chinese govenment policy to increase the export amout.China luxury market is increasing greatly in these years,I think you can read that news on most of the newspapers or website. Chinese rich man never care money when they find their tast products,which means your products shoule be noble ones

The most important aspect you have to understand whilst doing business in China, is that apart from the obvious language and cultural differences, you have to select very carefuly your 'partner' who will be marketing and selling your product.
Rule number 1 is dont believe what people tell you on the phone, by email atc and what they say in their website. Check out for yourdelf all the facts they claim they can do.
2) You must have a Business licence to sell your product to Chinese consumers or companies. (There are various options)
3) You must have a licence to import your products into China.

Your best bet is to link up with a company in China that can do all this for you, but the proviso, is make sure they understand (fully) your concept and what you want done.
You are from UK, so it makes sense to work with a company in China that has a UK understanding of business culture, language (to avoid misunderstandings) and experience.

China is a great opportunity to export your goods to, but it has to be done the correct way.
