Hello people. Big fan of your culture, economy, accent among others.
Let me start by introducing myself: I’m Raul Falcon, a young entrepreneur searching for opportunities throughout the world. I live in Tijuana, BC Mexico.
I’d like to start importing products from England due to the unique opportunity presenting itself. I have great relationship with the UK Embassy in Tijuana, specifically with the Trade & Investment department. Also, there’s a close relation with two local establishments that would help a lot with the introduction of the product (A local pharmacy with 39 stores thought the city and Xtra, with more than 500 shops around the country).
As my friend in the UK Embassy said “it doesn’t matter the product because everything sells, you need something that you can position itself quickly”.
Please, share your thoughts or keep in touch for further information if interested.

Dear Raul

I wish you luck. I would advise to look for iconic British products which are unique. I saw a cough sweet called 'Fisherman's Friends' on sale in Mexico.

Where I live in England is a county/state called Cornwall. The Cornish are very proud to have exported Cornish Pasties to Mexico with the Cornish miners.

Think of the English brands that go round the world. Worcester Suace, Marmite, and many more.

Good luck

I am planning my next Mexican holiday now.

Fisherman's Friend, such an old British brand, and the owner such a Gentleman.

Years ago as a scruffy long haired teenager I had a motorcyle accident, a bit cut and bruised and pretty shaken up. Quite a few drivers went past and didn't even bother stopping, and the one who stopped happened to be the Director/owner of Fisherman's Friend. He had a smart new Jaguar and let me use his carphone, a first for me then in the early 90's. I always meant to thank him personally, maybe he or his family will get the message :)

Falcon, Good post but be more specific, we need niches. Are you saying anything will sell at a profit in Mexico? What about import duties, customs clearance?

Hi Mr Closer,

The nich, or the target market is going to be people that go to convenient stores/shops. The local pharmacy is named Roma, but some offer a variety of products instead of just drugs (alcohol, dvd’s, ATM, food & beverages, home delivery, public phone, among others). The Xtra store/shop is more like a 7 eleven. These Xtra stores work with license granted by Grupo Modelo, which was the company that produces the Corona Extra beer. Imagine (just so you can understand the picture) a minimart that is sponsored/granted by Heineken. And within this place, you can find everything to make a gathering with friends and have a great time (alcohol, cigarettes, chips, food, wine, plastic cups, plates, forks, knives, napkins, etc.).
Both places are no more than 250 square meters.

Hello Friends,

The U.S. Commercial Service in Mexico is committed to advancing the goals of the National Export Initiative, which aims to create more and better paying jobs and enhance the U.S. economic recovery through the doubling of U.S. exports in five years. Mexico is the United States' second largest export market resulting in over USD 850 million of trade taking place each day. U.S.-manufactured products enjoy duty free import benefits under the North American Free Trade Agreement giving U.S. businesses a quality versus cost advantage over other foreign manufacturers. The growth of the Mexican economy, U.S.-Mexico trade, geographic proximity and the similarity in business cultures gives U.S. manufacturers and U.S.-based service providers ample opportunity to grow their market share in Mexico.

Thanks and Regards,
Edward Leigh

Hi Raul.
I was interested to read your message. We are a UK logistics company providing freight services from UK & Europe to Mexico in collaboration with our Mexican partners who are based in Guadalajara. We work closely with UKTI and, in fact, I intend to take part in a Trade Mission being organised by UKTI which is visiting Mexico City and Guadalajara in March. The plan is to attend the ANTAD exhibition in Guadalajara. We are keen to promote the export shipment of UK goods to Mexico and I would be pleased to help you identify potentially interesting UK products and to help you import these into Mexico. Perhaps we can meet at the ANTAD exhibtion? Can you let me have your email address and I will be able to give you more information accordingly? Kind regards.
Gary Baylis. Westhaven Worldwide Logistics.
