"Explainer Video" question

Hi All,

I’m just in the process of setting up a new business, and I'd like to include a really cool & interesting “Explainer Video” on our website for our pre-launch visitors to be able to see.

(I really like the Kinetic Typography style.)

Has anyone tried using an explainer video? If so, did you create your own, or did you get a company to create it for you?

I’ve seen a site called “Go Animate” (www.goanimate.com) which seems to give you the ability to create your own videos really cheaply. You just need to invest the time in being a bit creative and putting the video together yourself.

On the one hand this really appeals as I’m on a really tight startup budget, so I don’t mind doing the hard graft…. but equally, I am also really mindful that this is an area where it could be false economy if I can’t create a video that’s of a high enough quality.

So I thought I’d post here and see if anyone here has any experiences they’d be happy to share?

PS – it would be handy if you could provide an idea of costs (a range would be fine if you don’t want to disclose the actual amount you paid) and the turnaround time.

Just giving this a quick bump - has anyone had any experience of creating an Explainer Video?

If you want cheap. You could use a webcam with an extension lead if necessary, and film yourself doing a demo/talking, that way it would be close to a pc format (MPG, AVI, WMF) or a digital camera if you wanted to animate a film with text, a webcam can do that as well. Kinetic typography has got to be the hard way I would think?
