We are starting to do Catering at Music Events. My question is, do we go for a "Standard" van or a refrigerated van? I know some people hire fridge/freezer trailers but I am wondering if it would be better to just go for the fridge van.

Sorry its not my field but wouldnt it be what the food agencies and type of food you sell that dictates the van you require

Was this not covered when you undertook you Basic Food Hygiene course?

I think I need to make this a little bit clearer.
I do not mean the trailer, I mean the vehicle that I will use to tow it with.
Is there anyone on here who do catering events that tow their catering trailer with a 'normal' van or would it be better to buy a fridge van, therefore the need to hire a fridge trailer is not necessary.

A fridge van is better, you can carry extra drinks than your trailer based chiller could handle. If you get a van that you can put on eternal power, you can load it at home before you leave knowing the stock will be safe, you can then plug it and the trailer into a generator at events. Depending on the size of the chiller van, it may have a side load door, if so you coud patition that area off from the main body of the chilled area, here you could store tables & chairs etc. Hope this helps

Hi, I work for a company that converts vans into refrigerated vans and have supplied many vans to event caterers. Instead of operating a normal van then towing a refrigerated trailer, we can put a partition in the van which we call a mid-bulkhead so the front part of the van is refrigerated which can be accessed via the side door and the rear is left as a standard van so you can load food trays, tables, chairs etc.. The refrigeration unit can be specified with standby (a socket to plug it in to keep it operating whilst at the event as they normally draw power from a belt driven by the vehicles engine) this can be either single or three phase (single is most popular) if you need any further information or help please do let me know.

Regards

Cameron
