Hi, does anyone know if there is a template (opensource?) for a property rental/estate agency similar to rightmove.co.uk ?

I've been advised that wordpress has templates that can be used for this sort of thing, but I wouldn't know where to start.

Any suggestions please ?

Thanks.

Are these all open source communities/promgrams ?

I'm trying to set something that allows the agents to log in and update/upload their own properties, which I think is kind of how rightmove works.

I just want similar search facilities i.e.
buy/rent
house/flat/land
number of rooms
min/max prices
and ability to sort by price/distance maybe even date added etc.

You need to do more research on how rightmove works. Most of this is done automatically via feeds, the big estate agents, after updating their own websites, haven't got the time to also manually upload and update house details on other websites like rightmove, primelocation etc. The big estate agent's websites export the feeds to rightmove automatically.

As OldWelshGuy says, if you are trying to mimic rightmove, then you are talking a lot of money, like the money rightmove spent.

Estate Agent Web-Site - similar to rightmove
There is a world of a difference between an estate agent site, and a site like RightMove. Rightmove is not an estate agent site like a local independent estate agent would have. RightMove is more like an estate agent comparison site / portal / directory / search engine.

We've built a competitor site to Rightmove, and have a lot of in-depth knowledge on how Rightmove works, including search algorithms, upload mechanisms, agent and buyer / tenant notifications and more. RM is a 6-figures sum, and realistically to replicate it, or even come anywhere close, you would be looking at 5 figures.

You'll be unlikely to find anything open source out there that matches anything near the functionality, particularly because in the UK market there are a lot of nuances in the listing and search algorithms relating to property and agent locations, and upload feeds that an off-the-shelf open source package would be unlikely to handle.

Actually, the majority of agents update their portals automatically - and improve the reach of their marketing by feeding properties to more portals than could be justified when updating them manually - by using estate agency software like ours!

That's why for estate agent websites, I'd normally recommend specialist off-the-shelf estate agency systems, which have the automatic feeds to the likes of RightMove, PrimeLocation etc already built in.

Exactly right. We build and hosts the websites for our clients, as well as providing their software, for real-time integration.

Having a dedicated page on your website for each of your properties has become an important part of making the most of some of the free-to-list property portals such as Globrix, as well as for seo.

Any web developers that are working with estate agents are more than welcome to get in touch to discuss our integration options.

cost to market

Estate agent sells a house for £250000
Estate agent charges 2%
Estate agent fee = £5000

So if I said that developing your site for £10000 was good value for money...

Its just 2 sales for the average estate agent

Point being - I wouldnt charge 10K, but if the business model is right, you can afford the fees of a decent development team

Hi there did you get an answer to whether wordpress has a plug in so that for a lettings website users (landlords) can register and upload their own property details? This I guess would be similar to how estate agents can manually upload property to sites like rightmove.

DotNetWebs

Has anyone here worked with the Rightmove .blm file format?

I have written a parser that can read the file supplied by the estage agent and upload it our own site here:

Horsham Property

It only displays a fraction on the data available at the moment but we have recreated the entire Rightmove data model.

The reason I mention the .blm is that is one way this problem could be tackled. i.e. create the data in .blm format. This would then be in a format that could be submitted to Rightmove (although it would obviusly cost to do that)

Dear all;

I was browsing the net and I came across a new site called eSimsar.com . its a SAAS model (Software As A Service) without any program to download or software to install, users will be given a username and password to access the application and benefit from its services. Estate Agent, Developers and Landlord can manage their units, tenants, leases and payments in addition to many others,

The site is in Beta version, its worth checking.

Hope its helpful .

Hi DotNetWebs could you possibly share your parser with us?

Thanks
Alan

Well I have to admire your cheek! Your first [anonymous] post and you want me to give you something that I spent a few days developing, testing and refining: for FREE!

TBH I am not sure how useful it would be to you any way. It is written in C# and parses the data into my own custom types.

So it would only really be of use in a .net application will a similar architecture to Visit Horsham.

Hi,

I have just released propertywebshop.com for listing property advertisements constructed through an admin section. To make the website more reachable to agents I have been looking at the option of receiving xml feeds of property listings.

The question is, would anyone be able to advise on receiving xml feeds? So many websites or agent specific software seem to define their own xml format. I could define my own which work great with my site, but in practice would an agent get a developer to export to my specific format, or should I just aim to take in say rightmove v3 format which is more likely already set up in many agent's systems?

Thanks
Simon
