EPOS solutions - what a nightmare

Hey all,

I tend to visit this forum a lot, the time has come to ask a few questions and wondering if any of you guys/girls have some input please?

Having already researched on here the various reviews about EPOS systems, I am still none the wiser, some of the info is quite old and some of it isn't suitable.

Scenario

We have two food places, we are looking to open up a third.

At the moment, the two food locations have individual tills, we did not plan to have two places, let alone getting a third.

Currently using Casio tills, which are great, reliable, but when doing the numbers, it's very time consuming as they aren't linked, a lot of room for error and trying to look at historical data, not possible unless we have stored it on a spreadsheet, which is what we do.

What we need

On the new site, third one, this will have the new "tills", we will then refit the other sites, with the same system, have the data centralised and so on, this will help cut down on admin, provide a clearer picture on stock/sales and make life easier.

3 tills on new site and a kitchen display/monitor, 3 on site A and 2 on site B.

What we have looked at

We had been sold on the idea of using EposDirect using emperiumpos but the reviews seem to be bad, TrustPilot is descent but .........

Recommendations

Some people have recommended DIY builds with open source software (not much support) , some people hosted solutions such as VEND (really expensive) and I just can't seem to find a semi descent company.

Questions

Are EposDirect really that bad?
Is emperiumpos really that bad?
Any recommendations?

Many thanks in advanced

This falls into my area :) Briefly, been in epos for about 25 years, Casio main dealer for many of those. You are correct, it is a nightmare, there are some dodgy (and some VERY dodgy) companies and software out there. Coming from Casio, I highly recommend you look at ICRTouch software. We sell it, many other resellers sell it. It is very popular and works well. About 100k licences in the uk have been sold. Cloud back-office, lots of options available. Lots of hardware options.
Your relationship would be with a local dealer, so its you can get the support you need/want. And if you dont get the service from them, there are other people out there who will be able to help.

Let me know your location and I will get the details of a reputable dealer for you. Even if you dont decide to go with it, you should look at it!

Do not discount vend on price alone

It is what it is giving you for that price

I am not a user but it seems to be one of the new breed of EPOS that is designed from the ground up for the cloud and might be so perfect for what you want to achieve that it is worth the cost

I've got the same mindset as bovine.

There are some unscrupulous companies that have a low cost of entry to get people started, but they conveniently do not mention annual renewals amongst many others.

I would recommend ICRTouch as well - there's something like 300+ local dealers in the UK so there'll be someone near you that can sort you out with something. We sell the stuff as well.

The cloud back office reports sales back in real time and programming changes can be sent immediately (or on a schedule) to all your sites no matter how many you have.

Worth mentioning that yes, an ICRTouch dealer may be priced a little more than your typical EPOSDirect, EPOSNOW, etc system but when you take into consideration that there's no annual renewal fees, no cut being taken from sales, and excellent support if something goes wrong, you will generally save money in the long run.
