EORI Turnaround Time

Hi everyone

I just wanted to know how long it can take to receive a EORI number. I have goods waiting at the port here in UK and as I am not VAT registered (which will take a few weeks when i apply and the charges will make the shipment useless), is EORI going to be slightly faster?

Would appreciate advice.

Yeah. You should be able to get one within a day or two.

From HMRC receiving your EORI application - turn around time is usually 2-3 working days.

You will receive an email from HMRC with the EORI number and it will usually be active the day after receiving the email.

Are all UK VAT registered companies by default enrolled onto EORI? I was told that if you add three 'zeros' after the VAT number, it should be valid on the EORI tracker. However, this doesn't seem to be the case.

Is it possible for a VAT registered company to acquire a EORI the same day via phone?

Even if you are a VAT registered business already, you will still need to apply to HMRC to have the EORI "status" added to your existing VAT number.

Your VAT number will remain unchanged once the EORI status has been added.
