EORI Number

Hi

As you might already know, EORI is a Europe-wide system for identifying the parties who import or export goods into/from the EC. Essentially, it is supposed to make it more efficient when you identify yourself at Customs.

So if you are the importer (not your supplier, and not your customer, but you are named on the import documentation), then yes you will need an EORI number.

If you are already VAT registered in the UK, you can get your VAT registration number turned into an EORI number quite quickly (usually just a few days).

If you are not yet VAT registered, you might have to register for EORI in Austria.

It happens that I have applied for EORI in both the UK and Austria, so do let me know if you have any further queries/difficulties or need professional help.

Kevin and johndon,

thank you for your valuable help. I have read the HMRC side, but I can not find information as to what to do if the goods do not come to England. Directly from Croatia to Austria. MMS form must be completed?

This is not an export and import, I think it re-exports.
Or I'm completely stupid?
Thanks

Edith, the goods certainly sound as though they are imported, since Croatia is not in the EC, but Austria is in the EC (i.e. it sounds like an import into the EC).

But let's take this one step at a time.

Is your business UK VAT registered?

If so, you might as well get registered for EORI.

If not, we will have to look at whether Austrian EORI registration is necessary. One step at a time though ... are you UK VAT registered?

If you are already UK VAT registered, you can register for EORI in the UK.

The idea with this new EORI system is that your UK EORI number is valid throughout the whole or the EC. So you can use the UK EORI registration to identify yourself at Austrian Customs to import the goods into Austria from Croatia.

But you have to get yourself registered for EORI first. We can help with that, if need be.

Thank you Kevin, I have already submitted the application form C220.
Already confirmed by the tax office.
I think I will need help still. I'll look for you.
Thanks :)

Hi everyone,

I recently registered for VAT and want to get my EORI number. Do I need to fill the Application form for Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) Scheme or I can use my VAT number adding key in GB followed by the nine digit VAT number and end with a three digit 000 suffix for example GB123456789000?
