OK, there seem to be lots of maybes and mights here when looking for answers but if you have a EORI number and are using Royal Mail for an under 2kg delivery to Europe, where exactly do you put the EORI number?

You don't need an EORI number to export by post.

Printed CN22 from royal mail website has a space for EORI number. Strange that RM would include what you say is not needed eh?

Help with customs and sending goods abroad (royalmail.com)

"3. EORI Number

You will also need to have an Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number to send outside of the UK starting with GB. If you do not have an EORI number you will need to register with the HMRC. www.gov.uk/eori"

EORI number: How to apply and trade with the EU after Brexit | Sage Advice United Kingdom

"Since 1 January 2021, all UK businesses located in Great Britain (that is England, Scotland or Wales) that import or export goods to or from the EU need an Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number that starts with GB.

This will be used on the customs declarations and supporting documentation that businesses need to create.

Additionally, you need an EORI that starts with XI to move goods between Northern Ireland and non-EU countries, make a declaration in Northern Ireland or get a customs decision in Northern Ireland. Because of this, some businesses might need multiple EORI numbers."

Royal Mail on Twitter: "Shipping to the EU? No days to go, from today new regulations apply! Make sure you attach a customs declaration form, provide electronic data, include your (GB) EORI number and pay any applicable VAT and duties. Keep up to date at https://t.co/smksAhNtG4 https://t.co/e46qcG42VN" / Twitter

Click and Drop Def has EORI space, you need to update your in the Trading Name section

Last week I questioned why me as NI customer am getting CN22 labels for my EU shipments the girl from click and drop thought I needed them, then after checking again confirmed I didn't she has now created a ticket with their support team to figure this out.

I use the ones that the nice lady behind the counter gives me (the new style ones, not the old stock).

No space for EORI, only HS tariff code and VAT number.

I have only used my EORI number when required by an overseas supplier from whom I am importing.

Perhaps they are using up old stock until they run out then get new printed.
Whereas those of us printing the form have access to the new one straight away.

i've a system that automatically prints on top of the Post Office CN22 label (via a zebra thermal printer), I just put this in the CN22 VAT ID box...

VAT ID: GB123456789
EORI: GB123456789000

...it has to be a tiny font to fit (point size 8) ...but it's readable.

Then perhaps those dealing with the printing out as needed version have a newer stock than you.

See my earlier point, The link you gave to the RM business help page has a link to the CN22 with no EORI field.

So who should be believed? Royal Mail? Or government?

I have asked the EORI team. They were quite responsive the other day so I am helpful of a fairly quick answer.

And yet the CN22 I printed yesterday has EORI printed on it.
What do royal mail spend money on updating their computer system to produce a product at the other end for if it doesn't need something?
Do businesses commonly waste money on such things?

I've just logged into click and drop and they seem to have been working on this as this message has just appeared:

sending items from Northern Ireland to the EU.

In accordance with Government guidance, there are no declaration requirements for goods sent from Northern Ireland to the EU. Royal Mail customers based in Northern Ireland sending items to the EU should treat the items as they did before 1st January, with a clearly visible return address clearly showing a BT postcoded address. Royal Mail’s shipping platforms may produce customs documentation (CN22 or CN23) but these do not need to be attached to the outside of the parcel. We are working with our postal partners and others to ensure these items are not subject to customs processes and continue to flow smoothly.

We continue to monitor and improve these processes in consultation with our partners and will update customers on any changes in due course.’

So there are at least two different CN22, three if we count the recently superceded one which can still be used "whilst stocks last" according to the local postmistress.

Perhaps the click'n'drop development team are just as confused as a lot of other people and haven't read the government guidance for postal exports.

Or perhaps the web devs are clueless about the need to update the online CN22.

You tell me :)

Or perhaps the devs are following the policy they are told.

"Royal Mail’s shipping platforms may produce customs documentation (CN22 or CN23) but these do not need to be attached to the outside of the parcel" ’

...so just throw them into the bin. Just one line of code, something like...

if ShippingPostcode like "BT*" then CN22Print = false

...saves a couple of forests nationally - gizzajob ...I can do that!

I believe there are two different CN22 forms available from the post office. One with a barcode and one without. The one with a barcode is used for postal services that do not have tracking, and the one without the barcode is used for tracked services that already have a barcode on the post office sticker for the service used. Thats what I hot told by the post office staff.

Correct. Neither have a space for a EORI number.
