Good Morning!!
I am starting a new venture which is really exciting...whenever possible and in line with our ethical policy and community-commitment, I would like to give work to people with little or no career prospects. This work would most likely be on a casual "per job" basis, and don't envisage having them on payroll, so wonder how this works with regards to HMRC/PAYE/NI etc..
I would have thought that I could take them on much like someone would take on a builder to do some building work, and they would invoice me when they are done for the job completed. They would then have to do their own accounts and self-assessment to declare their income, and I would simply put their costs down as start-up costs or cost of sales.
Also, how would employer liability work? Would they be covered, or would they need to get their own insurance as it would be a contract and not full employment?
Does this sound right? Are there any GOOD, CLEAR advice pages on HMRC or any other sites that you could point me to?
Many thanks,
Duncan
