Email Problems on my Computer.

Hi,

I am having a few problems with the emails on my mobile phone and my computer.

I am receiving emails on my mobile phone but they are not always appearing on my computer.

I don't know if this is a Talk Talk problem (this is who I am with). I do not seem to have problems when accessing my gmail.

The problem first started with me viewing emails on my Nokia, those didn't appear on my computer, whereas the unread ones did. Now I don't seem to receive any emails on my computer.

This problem seemed to start happening when I changed my phone to a Nokia Lumia 635 from an iphone, however the problem also seems to be the same on my other half's iphone.

Is this a coincidence, or is it my Nokia somehow interfering, is it Talk Talk, or something I have done to my computer.

I hope this makes sense.

Please help this technically inept individual!

If your email is working from one device then your email is working and it almost certainly has to do with the way your other devices are set up. What error do you get?

I have just tried to update the emails on my Nokia and it has come up with code 80072746. Whenever I try to do anything with the emails on my phone it just keeps trying to 'syncing'.

Gmail is fine, it is just Talk Talk, so I obviously don't have something set up correctly.

Sounds like you need to be using IMAP to retrieve your emails, this allows you to download the email to a device whilst keeping a copy on the email server. so if you access another device you can also see them.

As above, what's possibly happening is your phone is picking up emails and then removing them from the server so when your PC goes to download there is nothing there.

You may be using POP3 for email pickup on your phone and don't have "leave a copy of messages on the server" ticked.

Yes, as @NetConneXions and @Paul_Rosser say, your email accounts need to be set up as IMAP or with 'leave a copy on server' ticked if they are set up as POP3, but IMAP is preferred as it means emails will be more synchronised. POP3 is a bit manual for my liking.

If you are finding IMAP or POP3 to be problematic maybe a Hosted Exchange solution might be better for you, As email can be read on Microsoft Outlook through to iPhones. It synchronises across all devices and messages are pushed to your phone as they are received.
