Email marketing

Any recommendations for email marketing software that is relatively cheap or even better, free?

With the email list I have circa 50,000
mailchimp, for example, is going to cost me £167 per month.

I don't know what industry you're in, but if you monetize your email list in the right way, you'll easily pay for mailchimp (or be able to move to a more powerful system).

This youtube video will explain how to monetize your existing list. I *think* with a bit of tweaking it can be applied to a lot of online business models, not just info products.

But I don't know of any free services out there for 50k subs.

Maybe Amazon (SES) would be cheaper? Could be worth checking out.

With a little bit of knowledge of PHP, you can do it yourself, for the cost of a decent web server :)

It's a very good point. But the only problem with running mass mail from such servers is that most hosting companies now have limits in place. Also, if the database is not clean it can result in a lot of email bouncing back. Another problem is spam - it's way to easy for consumers to click spam which can result in the mail server being blacklisted. Which would result in wasted email marketing campaigns.

I have done many PHP mass mailing scripts but over the last 3 years, I have decided to stop them as I spent way too much time fighting to keep the mail servers from ending up on the black lists. Also, never worked with spam email lists - but still experienced problems.

I am not sure how Mail Chimp and other similar companies get around such problems but they do a better job then I could. So, now I focus my time on integrating these systems, creating funnels and actions.

Mailchimp and such are pretty strict, 2 spam complaints from your mailshot and they close you down, they are really strict.

I struggle to make my email campaigns really work for me.

Hence why emails sent via their mail servers are more likely to get to intended target. It forces clients to keep their databases up to date and clean. Mailchimp is one of the tougher ones.

yep try www.648crm.com its generally for accountants but you can send up to 100k of emails free per month or pay a little bit more for as many as you want. There costing is not based per subscriber so you can import as many leads as you want on the same payment plan (20 a month)
