email bounce

When I mail a contact it keeps bouncing. He says most of his mail is getting through, but about 4 or 5 people are having the same bouncing problem. Message reads:

[email protected]
SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<[email protected]> SIZE=11456:
host mx0.123-reg.co.uk [194.154.164.150]: 550-ATLAS(2503):
65.60.41.10 is blacklisted and not authenticated. Please
550-request delisting via the following link:
550 Blacklisted by Webfusion for high spam volumes.

Could one of you experts please clear my path a tad?
Ta.
(Contaxt is xxx@xxx, I am yyy@yyy)

I remember when the BT servers were blacklisted by AOL. That was an interesting few weeks. BT had a terrible job getting AOL to remove the blacklisting, they basically made BT drag up their standards re outgoing spam.

Basically, you don't have a lot of choice. Someone off the email server has been shoving out a load of spam and their IP address has been blacklisted. If the server that you are sending to lifts the blacklisting against you is a dedicated server then they may be able to sort it out re this particular contact. However, you are just going to come across the same problem with other recipients

I'm sorry if I'm being thick here, but I don't follow. Are you saying that it is my host's server, (Justhost), who has been blacklisted because of spamming by someone else on a shared server?

What is happening is that I send an email to chum at xxx@xxx from yyy@yyy and Cc to him at another address, zzz@zzz. As it is Cc it obviously comes from me and goes through Justhost, but it, zzz@zzz, is not bounced.

The host of zzz@zzz hasn't listed the justhost server as blacklisted which is why it gets through. The host of ccc@ccc has which is why it doesn't get through. It's got to be a really bad situation to get blacklisted by all IPs.

There is a website that you can go to check the rating of your IP in the spam league, unfortunately i can't remember it. Sorry.

Yes it looks like Webfusion have decided to blacklist web37.justhost.com [65.60.41.10], though quite why it's hard to see.

That IP is not listed at any of the reputable blocklists, this one, for instance.

Further confusing is "host mx0.123-reg.co.uk [194.154.164.150]". A reverse lookup of that IP gives no hostname, though it is a Webfusion IP, and if you try to send mail to it:

Code:
$ telnet 194.154.164.150 25
Trying 194.154.164.150...
Connected to 194.154.164.150.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 mail11.atlas.pipex.net ESMTP Exim 4.63 - "ATLAS SMTP Service" Tue, 29 Sep 2009 20:17:57 +0100

It claims to be mail11.atlas.pipex.net.

Not that any of that helps really. Can you relay via a different server?
