Hi
I'm going to get a website made in the next few weeks and was wondering if around 5k will get me a good ecommerce website. I know it will also depend on the designer but wanted to know if that's enough although I will spend more if I have too.
Thanks

To echo what the others have said already, it really does depend. Rather than rushing to get one developed in the next few weeks (why so quick, what's the rush???), I would brief several agencies/freelancers, set up meetings, etc. etc. to find one that you're happy to work long term with. £5k can either be really cheap or really expensive, depending on how much money it makes you. Making a rush decision is never a good idea with something so fundamental to an ecommerce business.

Sorry guys for the no info.
It will just be a basic site selling 3 different categories of products of approximately 40 items each category.
I understand what your all saying I think I need to speak to a few different designers and tell them what I want and get some advice as I really have no idea about this sort of thing.
Thanks for your help everyone

If I were you buy some hosting, get open cart set up and get uploading products now.

While you do this work with a web designer to help develop a theme for your website, I charge £750 for this service in open cart including all testing and set up.

You should be well on your way then with a feature rich store full of great products! I'd then invest in an SEO audit to address any content problems and take it from there.

You'd be surprised by the variance in cost for an eCommerce website. We use Magento and to date we've found ourselves charging anywhere between 3k - 7k but have never gone over this point.

You sound like you are after a fairly basic eCommerce solution so 5k would be more than enough.

    • Do you already have a strong brand and logo?
    • Will you also be selling on eBay/Amazon and need integration?
    • Do you have a separate system in mind for Order Management, Invoice Printing and Label Printing?
    • Do you have a separate accounting package to use that you need to connect to?
    • Do you need any custom features specific to your product niche?
    • Do you already have really great product photography?
    • Have you chosen which payment gateway you'll use? PayPal? Stripe? CardSave? SagePay? etc.
    • Have you planned how you'll market the site? Email campaigns? SEO? PPC? Social Media?
