Hi guys,
I'm looking to start my own E commerce website.
I want to know if you guys can recommend any companies?

I want a nice looking store, with easy integration for payment processing and not too high rates.

So far I have seen sellro.com and ekm powershop and they both look good.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Dan.

There are many good companies on here, and I am not going to tread on their toes! But before you choose, if the project is important (and I really suspect it is!), spend time with your chosen party making sure you can work with them.

An ecommerce site needs to be dynamic. In other words, the relationship with your chosen partner will be more than the initial build. Understand where their charging will go with them - in some detail.

Get the spec right up front, and written down, too, because I read too many threads on here that start like this 'after 6 months I still have nothing and the cost is going up'. That must not happen to you.

It'd be easier to tell you the one's to avoid. There are some real cowboys out there. Look at the terms and conditions. As a reply above says... it's actually what happens after the initial build - the initial build, relatively speaking, is the easy bit (as hard as that is). Your site will succeed or die on your ability to amend it and the more of this you can do yourself the better - for reasons of logistics as much as anything (any ecom supplier could have 100's of others all wanting their site updated). Make sure you're completely clear what 'updating/changing' the site and terms like 'minor amends' actually means (they all allow you to add products, it's the changes you can't make you need to understand). Depending on the business you may want to refresh the look and feel every 'season' so it might be really important. And I'll repeat again... look at the terms and conditions, they can betray a lot, if you follow.

All the best
K

Dear Dan,

It's always good to know real people's experience, but it really depends on your needs.
That's why I'm for trying by myself and getting my own experience.
Try CS-Cart demo version alt-team.com/cs-cart.html
It's really easy to manage.

Hi There

My advice is to look for the cloud/SOA style services with no tie in. This way you can try the service and see how it goes. I woudl also just choose something and get moving or you can find find yourself spending days looking at loads of solutions that all miss the mark slightly!!

Unless you develop or tweak a solution yourself you will have to compromise on missing functionality in most solutions.

www.tigercommerce.co.uk are very good and easy to get going with. They don't tie you in eitehr and have a decent trial.

Hey,

We have been working with ekmpowershop for almost 3 years now and set nearly 20 companies up online with them.

As with any platform it is has its good and bad point but if you're looking for an easy to manage and populate platform with built in features then ekmpowershop is perfect for that.

It integrates with a wide range of payment gateways , but you can see all the ones they support on the website. All in all i would highly recommend ekmpowershop.

If you have any questions then feel free to give me a call :)

Hi there wwdg,

Glad to hear you recommend ekmpowershop. We have plenty of merchants using it with our payment gateway and always have. We are integrated with ekmpowershop making it very easy set up for our merchants.

Please bare us in mind when looking at payment gateways for your clients. We have a referral scheme in place for developers who recommend our solution.

If you have any questions about our service feel free to drop me a PM.

Thanks,

Simon
