Ecommerce platform bundles

Hi,

I currently use Magento 1.9 and heavily use the bundles feature so customers can choose their product components and Magento tracks stock.

It works great, however Magento EOL is in 2020 and need to plan what I'm going to do when this happens.

I hate Magento 2, it is much slower on mobile 4G than M1 was. I've done all cacheing and also had expert hosting companies set up demo stores.... which were also slow on 4G for bundle products.

Looking for a new platform, any ideas?

Only other option is woocommerce as their composite products extension has same functionality, however woo seems like a step backwards.

I can do everything on another platform such as Opencart or Prestashop with product options, but would need to use an API call on checkout success to change stock levels of the components chosen via options.

Anyone know how to do this, or a platform that has the native functionality?

Thanks :)

I would look into Shopify and the Bold Bundles App if M2 is not a viable solution. Prestashop has gone down the wrong path and has been forked a few times leaving it very flakey. WooCommerce is not a step backwards, far from it. With the right extensions in place and solid front end design and layout, you shouldn't have any issues.

I vote for Magento 2 even if it is slow, it is scalable and customizable. And you always can optimize it with cache management, optimizing js and pictures, etc. There are more options to work with products and categories. WooCommerce is great if you have the small store. OpenCart is a good option, however, once you want to upgrade you might force issues with security files update. Prestashop is quite good for the midsize business and it is relatively cost-effective. However, there are not enough features, in my opinion, just basic ones.

I mean that to be able to install the most recent security updates in OpenCart, you will need to update the files on the server. I don't think that it is bad, but it takes some time to do.
It's true that it's harder to update OpenCart that WordPress but it's also true that OpenCart very rarely gets hacked compared to WordPress and updates are less important.

Overall, it is easy to use, but not easy to customize.
It's no harder to customise than anything else is it? In fact it's easier than most to customise because there are so many extensions available and it's so simple.

I've been using Prestashop and there are so many modules and add-ons that it may be possible to do what you want to do? You can create attributes so customers can choose size, colour etc and it updated stock as appropriate.

Prestashop seems to have a lot of customisation where required .

Totally agree that Shopify is good option for you. If you want to more stable, and your business size is big => Shopify Plus is another option for you. Also PrestaShop is good enough, but it is for small or medium business size only. And you should need to pay a lot for developer to custom it.

There is never a correct answer to these questions as it depends on your requirements, what functionality you want, how much hands on are you going to be etc etc.

Self hosted options - xcart easily competes with Magento (better in my experience). Prestashop is better than it was - but it was hopeless when you had products with multiple combinations. Opencart was a good fit for some of the things I've done. But for self hosted - I always ended up back with xcart - with addons.

Ekm is one to consider - but its more expensive. If you want to go down the less hassle route, no maintenance, automatic updates / security patches etc - then ecwid is always my goto option. It lives in the Amazon Cloud, security patches, updates are done for you - as everyone uses the same version etc.
The main killer feature though is that you can put your shop in multiple places at the same time including Facebook.

Nina also has a facebook page - where she can now target facebook pet lovers - and they can purchase / check out in facebook - eg https://en-gb.facebook.com/petnannycole/app/251458316228/

Why would you think WooCommerce is a step backwards? You can easily setup products as "Grouped products" or "Variable products" to create bundles without the need for any plugins, stock control included. WordPress is an enterprise-level solution fully adopted by big brands.

I would recommend you stick with Magento and upgrade to v2. If that is what you're used to using it will be easier for you than converting to a new platform. Also, Magento was bought by Adobe this year so it's going to get better and better. M2 should not be slow on 4G so more than likely you have a script or a template issue, or the bundles we not getting cached. Just run loading tests, debug, check your log files, find the bottleneck and fine tune.

Kits or bundles is a standard feature in Shopit, in fact so is everything. Faster than Magento, easier to configure and manage, and you ONLY pay based on your usage - not fixed costs for limited features. Check out www.vimeo.com/shopit and take a look inside
